Latest news NEW MEMBERS

Okt 4th New members.

We welcome Erik Hammarström, who plays drums and percussion with great groove, and keyboard virituos Linus Kåse. Back in the band is Tord Lindman on guitar and vocals.

At the moment we are rehearsing songs and writing new material. In 2013 we plan to play live again. We have been invited to play in Japan and it is planned for some time in March. We'll do one gig before that, probably in Stockholm. Later on we plan to also play gigs in Europe. The dates are not yet fixed, but we hope to be able to bring you more detailed plans shortly.

I'm very surprised to learn that Mattias isn't in the band anymore..

I hope the vocals are kept to a minnimum...

And it is sad to hear Matttias left. Those are fairly big drum shoes to fill.

I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive

I rather hope they keep the vocals at just about the level on Hybris. It was refreshing to hear some sining in swedish... even if I didn't understand a word.

Wow, that's shocking news Shocked

I guess it's fairly safe to assume that Mattias is out.Cry It's a real shame: I didn't find his drumming on Viljans Öga was quite so inspired as on the first two albums (but I agree, big shoes to fill though), but he's obviously a fantastic producer with lots of creative ideas. I suppose being in a successful band and running a successful studio both put enormous pressures on your time.

But Tord back on guitars and someone named as keyboard player, that leaves the question of whether they're in addition to, or in place of, Jonas and Thomas.

I'd be happy either way whether they had vocals or not, providing they're still in Swedish – I really liked the fact that they sang in their own language even though I don't understand it.

ETA. anglagard.net says that Jonas and Thomas are out as well ShockedCry Wow...

Jonas and Tomas are out.  I'm not sure I'm much interested now, since I consider Mattias irreplaceable.  Then to also loose the guitarist and keyboardist.......well, I just don't see how it could be the same band anymore.

Tord is back but I doubt he will have enough stamina to function as a proper replacement for Jonas.

The band has been plagued with constant conflict since the beginning, hence the breakup, reunion, breakup pattern. Anyone who attended NF 2012, I'm sure, knew that this unfortunate split was on the horizon.

I, however, am rather bummed out about it. I was really pulling for the band to come out of this in one piece. The only thing I can hope for is that the band has made a decision that makes everyone involved happy.

To me it can only be a good thing with some new ideas hopefully. Viljans Oga is okay but I would like to hear something that is a bit different next time.

For those of us that weren't at NEARFest, what happened that made an impending split obvious?

I've seen conflicting messages regarding '94 and whether it was a hiatus or break-up – is there anything definitive one way or the other and if it was a breakup, are there any indications as to why? Presumably Tord wasn't happy, given that he wasn't involved in the 2003 gigs, or is that a red herring?

I always find the context in which records are created compelling, especially where great art comes out of troubled circumstances (one could easily compare with Floyd's Wish You Were Here, Animals or The Wall, or Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, not that I personally rate the latter as great art but it is a good album).

It's only one short clip, but going by the recording posted on their website, I wouldn't hold your breath.

I quite enjoy Viljans Öga so would be happy to hear more of the same (not that it's exactly like their earlier work, there have been some changes), but something a little different might be no bad thing.

Mattias and Tomas out Shocked - at least Tord is back to replace Jonas but who can fill the gaping hole that is left by Mattias (Zoltan Csorsz comes to mind.....) ??  And I hope the new Keyboardists have M400's............
