I really like Little Wing. Jimi Hendrix was an excellent prog musician.
Wait, what the f**k am I babbling about?
I guess it'd have to be:
1. Dancing With the Moonlit Knight, even if I hate most Genesis in general.

dawn of light lying between a silence and sold sources chased amid fusions of wonder in moments hardly seen forgotten colored in pastures of chance dancing leaves cast spells of challenge amused but real in thought we fled from the sea whole dawn of thought transfered through moments of days under searching earth revealing corridors of time provoking memories disjointed but with purpose craving penetrations offer links with the self instructors sharp and tender love as we took to the air a picture of distance dawn of our power we amuse re-descending as fast as misused expression, as only to teach love as to reveal passion chasing late into corners, and we danced from the ocean dawn of love sent within us colors of awakening among the many won't to follow, only tunes of a different age as the links span our endless caresses for the freedom of life everlasting...

Agreed...this one's been stuck in my head for a couple weeks now. I'll be sitting in class and it's playing in my head.
I can't really pick a favorite, though. Comparing my pantheon of favorites is like comparing apples and razor blades and those tiny circular rubber bands whose purpose I've never quite been able to fathom. Just can't be done, at least comparing any characteristics that actually matter.

For a very good reason. I would second "Thick as a Brick" as #1, but put "And You and I" in second in place of "Close to the Edge", and "Supper's Ready" as 3rd. Or perhaps "In the Court of the Crimson King". Come to think of it, picking just one is silly. Nearly every song offered in this thread is great in its own way.

Yeah, whatta hell is this? Just one? If you had to put a gun to my head, I'd wait for you to shoot me ... as I'm pondering what one is my #1 prog song.
EDIT: OK, if you were pulling me by my dangles, threatening to rip'em off, ... I'd quickly blurt out something like ... "... A-a-a-a-a-aAH! ... Musical Box!" ... No, wait, ... wrong answer. I think the guitar parts and the production could have been better. In that case ... "... 'Facelift'! " Yeah, ... "Facelift" will do for now.

I see. I kind of misread what you meant there. Anyway, edited.

Very hard one for me, I'm going to have to go with Inca Roads at the moment. Very good & accurate parody of Prog & a great song overall.

Locanda delle Fate is an interesting pick, one of my favourite RPI albums. I'd rather have chosen "A volte un istante di quiete", though..
"A volte un istante di quiete" is another highlight from an overall very good album, but nothing comes close to the title track for me. It struck a chord with me the first time I heard it and has been my favourite track ever since. But that wasn't too long ago though, less than a year, so my feelings for it may change with time. IDK. I still get surprised how good it actually is every time I hear it, so I don't think I will get tired of it any time soon.

Echolyn.......Mei
I will definitely second this. I cannot find one dull moment in this nearly 50-minute masterpiece, which says something about how good the guys in Echolyn are at writing prog songs.
