I've picked three really iconic songs that would definitely give described as "Anthem" of the subgenres Proto-Prog and Prog Related. It's my personal selection, if you have any better suggestion, please write it.

Child in Time. I saw Bohemian Rhapsody a second after I clicked it. But I stay solid with Child In Time. I remember it from being 5 years old listening to it on the Made In Japan vinyl, thinking that 10 minutes was a really long time (lol)

Three iconic prog-related songs indeed. Not the easiest choice, but I prefer Bohemian Rhapsody.

If I'm ignoring the massive overplay of Stairway and Bohemian, as a song Stairway To Heaven gets my vote. It's a perfect song.

Three great songs. I was about to vote for child in time but I remember that it has been stolen to "It's A Beautiful Day" as well as I have heard the ancestor of  "Strange Kind of Woman" but I don't remember the band, so I go for Bohemians Rhapsody which is the most "Zeuhl" thing done by the Queen.Big smile

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Never dug DP, even if it was "Child in Time". "The Bohemian Rhapsody" is good, but not great. Went with the ladder. It's melodic (I mean, it's got tacky and sweet melodies), it's got an arrangement build-up, and it used to give me some kind of a warm feeling inside. Classic. After hearing it five-six years ago I just gave up the whole notion that there is no such thing as a 5/5 kind of song.

And this:

(The Easy Rider album cover doesn't have anything to do with the song. They are the Blues Magoos)

Let me add that in the first case it's a "legal" copy. The authors were happy to have it reworked by the Deep Purple, it seems.

Yes it is legal. 'It's a Beautıful Day' gave as a present the song to Deep Purple, and later on Deep Purple returned the present. Gave the song 'Wring that Neck' to them, and you can find it in their second album 'Marrying Maiden'.
But I can't remember the name of the song right now, sorry...

I'm not a Queen fan, so it's between Child in Time and Stairway to Heaven for me. I think it's Child in Time: it's got better lyrics (in my opinion), better vocal performance and better guitar solo.

Child In Time is only one I like from the three. I can only think of Waynes World now when I hear Bohemian Rapsody. Never a great fan of Zep although I like some of 'proggier' numbers like Achilles Last Stand and Dazed And Confused as well as the brilliant heavy funk of Trampled Underfoot.

Three of the greatest rock records ever put on vinyl. What a difficult choice. Gillan's wail inches it past Bo Rap which inches past stairway, methinks.

Of the three I'd have to go with the most played song in FM radio history that wasn't released as a single. Stairway to Heaven.

The mighty Zep! I don't where I would be musically, if it wasn't for those guys. They opened the floodgates. Bowdown

In my opinion, Bohemian Rhapsody takes the win. Mainly because my fascination with Queen but also because of its extremely unique "Marriage of Figaro," as I like to call it, style influences. I'm also disregarding its overplayed air time. Excellent work on the forum question as it took some thought!

Stairway. Stairway and Bohemian rhapsody aren't overrated, just some people listened to it too much times. Child in time is great, but i have only simetimes a mood to listen Gillan's voice. BR made the first break of my life when i was 11y old girl and all I loved before was Robbie Williams and Shakira. Stairway did the same when I was 14 and gave me lots of inspiration and still gives. Child did not.
