Neal Morse put on a mini-show at the Cornerstone Music Festival in Illinois.  The bad news: Neal and band only played for an hour.  The good news: what they played was incredible.  Neal's new band is stellar and really sounds great.

Old guys:
Neal and Randy George (bass)

New guys:
Adson Sodre: guitar and vocals
Bill Hubauer: keys, violin and vocals
Eric Gillette: keys, guitar and vocals
Jason Gianni: drums

Setlist:
The Creation
Momentum
The Door (excerpts)
Cradle to the Grave
Time Changer
Jayda

The Creation is an amazing song and in my opinion, should be a staple in every Neal Morse concert as it is especially good live.  (Here's a bit from the show:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XV6u9MSQyAc" rel="nofollow - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XV6u9MSQyAc )  Hearing the song "Momentum" was a treat as we got a peek at the new album which will be out on September 11th.  It has a catchy chorus and appeared to be about a 7-8 minute song.  The Door is also an amazing tune and this live version had all of the highlights, including Adson Sodre pulling off the blistering solo at the end.  Cradle to the Grave was a duet involving Neal's son Wil.  I've never been a huge fan of this song, but it was pretty moving seeing these two perform it live.  Time Changer can be a dizzying song, but this band made it look easy.  And Jayda was an emotional close to the evening.  Though short, this was a really nice performance.  Can't wait to see this band in action again in October on the Momentum tour.

Only an hour, what a shame that Cornerstone only gave him that amount of time, but I'm sure it was still more than most artists got.

It's a privilege to get an hour of Neal Morse's music. Just kidding. Not a bad setlist though, curious to hear how "Momentum" sounds.

Cornerstone actually gave Neal two hours to play, but there were some problems getting everything set up.  The band before Neal was off the stage at 9:00 PM and it was about 10:30 when Neal and band finally got underway.  It was frustrating, but they sure sounded good once they got going.
