Morningrise has been doing a South American prog world cup, and I must say that it's been exposing me a lot of cool bands that I had no previously heard of.

I thought that an Asian & Middle-Eastern Prog World Cup would also be interesting. However, I'm wondering if I should wait until Morningrise's tournament is over (I think that would be the best course of action). I want to know what you guys think, though.

I like the idea, and would think it could be done concurrently -- I would want to hear what Morningrise says first about that (would just hope there wasn't a glut of such contests a la the Survivor ones).  Doing both at the same time might even generate more interest for both contests.

It would be neat if it covers some very little rated ones as well.

Agree with everything you said here. The main reason why I'd wait is precisely because I don't want to generate a bunch of copycats (even though I'm being a copycat myself Wink).

I had assumed that the South America one was part of a bigger tournament, and that he would do more regions  after this was done then winners of each region would compete against each other at the end. But if not then I would say do it.

I do plan on doing it. The real question is whether or not I should wait.

(Unless, of course, Morningrise has an objection.)

What you should do is avoid doing it as a multi-thread thing, because the Survivors have been way too annoying. It would be great if we had a feature that let us replace the poll in the thread with a new one, or post a poll in the individual posts in the thread, but now it would just be too much.

I like the idea, I can always use more suggestions.
And as you've already suggested, waiting sounds like the thing to do.

I'd say yes, but not right now. Maybe Umm Kulthum, the Egyptian inventor of epics, should be added first to give Japan some contest.

You could probably do a whole tournament for just Japan.

Yes, but perhaps it's best to wait 'til Morningrise is done with the Latin American one.

They would certainly destroy the competition.

I really wish you would have conducted a poll to make sure that this poll was a good idea.

Anthony, this is a great idea and I don't see how is it interfering with Morningrise's poll. Just know that it will get behind all the survivals polls which is a bit frustrating. But as successful as the Latin American poll is I'm sure this will be too.

Do it.

No. Honestly: How many just a bit known bands from this area you may find to create the tournament tree?

But I reserve the rights for Central European Poll!

Yeah, okay, Africa, how many bands/artists in the PA database? Ermm (Answer: not enough).
Unless we count North African bands?

I would have liked you to wait, but it seems you already started anyways. I hope I have the time to check both tournaments. I'm just listening to 6LA8 right now, by the way, and it sounds really great.

I just about always participate in polls but this idea has my attention. Maybe because i'm about to review quite a few from this area. And i'm for the Isreal/Asia poll too.

I have a question:  Other than location, what criteria do you use for including a band/ artist?

That was clearly a joke man. I never heard of a band from this area.
