I could write a huge essay messing around with what I mean exactly by "crazy" but people would just disagree with it so let's keep this short: I don't mean batsh*t insane, I just mean that virtually all of us have minor things, that when you look at them objectively, are signs of psychological dysfunction. The less I've assumed that people are rational and make sense, the more accurate my predictions have become. |

If you think about it, it's kind of amazing that we keep ourselves in line so much.We're really just animals that have a conscience somehow. We have a flurry of emotions, but almost all of us have a desire to connect with others somehow. No. Insanity is subjective, and is judged in perspective to other people. If most people are somewhat like other people in their perception of other people and their social skills and they don't murder anybody for no reason, I guess you could say most people aren't insane. ------------- There be dragons |

Man With Hat: An interesting discussion that. Stupidity and mental dysfunction are very hard to tell apart a lot of the time. Like let's say you have a big test tomorrow that you really care about, but you stay up all night partying and sleep in, missing it. Did you do something stupid or something crazy? Does the distinction even matter?

Is Textbook, (in general) creating too many separate threads for issues that many on PA really couldn't give a discarded fig about? (Though I guess 5 responses to date indicate a semblance of enthusiasm) Why not write that 'huge essay' and actually articulate your ideas for consideration fully, at length and in depth? I know the answer to that last question and so do you.

I don't think people are crazy or stupid generally speaking.
Some people are sociopathic, and others just hapless. But for most of us, we just move through life sometimes making sound judgements and sometimes making bad judgements. Most of us probably learn from the mistakes of those bad judgements. Some don't. I find it bewildering that most of us seem to maintain a level of functioning sanity, with all the pressures on us to 'be this' and 'do that' and 'think this' For me personally, I could consider it a significant achievement, that I have held it together for 43 years, without harming myself or someone else. I'm pretty thin skinned and over sensitive. I find the world around me quite frightening and threatening. But to quote a Rush song: 'Folks are basically decent' I do believe that. ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

I would rather say that everyone has their own way of living, thinking and speaking... And sometimes people don't understand each other and call each other "crazy". Oh, and I have my two cents about it: when someone calls other people "crazy" or "stupid", he might be crazy or stupid himself. |

Personality and psychological disorders and malfunctions and craziness (to put everything here) are not "yes' or "no" things. It's not that you either "have" or "don't have" certain disturbances in your mind or psyche, there are just levels, we all are kind of crazy in degrees. Some people's mental personality, ego, problems are just strong enough to cause serious distress to their lives. -------------

Everybody has obsessions everybody clings to certain things everybody repeats routines just to keep order and sanity. Everybody. Some just get overwhelmed in all of that. Everybody is potentially crazy. -------------

I personally have 'flashes' of irrational anger/frustration bordering on psychopathy... But I quickly revert to my normal rational/mildly empathetic self... I'm not very compassionate in active way but i try to tolerate all the screeching, walking glands around me(working class men of the younger generation are intolerable-but almost any form of mass media makes me feel sick to my stomach-the banality/vulgarity is even more infuriating)... When I was younger my emotions were much more easily concealed to myself. Now I find the neuroses more obvious and close to being expressed. But I maintain... 'the dude abides' or something similar. As Sartre said-'hell is other people'... but we can still find amusement and even joy in others with a momentary reflection(not making an allowance for propaganda/m.media-that is soul destroying) ------------- we only know that we do not know |

Nobody really knows why we're here, and that's what really drives us all crazy. We can shelve it for a while, but that doubt is always there. I understand the argument "if everybody's crazy, then nobody's crazy", but I'm going to go ahead and call it crazy anyway. Boxxy needs to lay off the meth, or whatever scripts her folks have her on... i used to work with a guy named boxe from thailand and he was f+ck1ng insane... he used to eat intestines(chitlins) in front of me while i was trying to criticize his work(he was a concrete finisher/repairman-taught me a lot!)... it was a constant mind game... then he would sexually harass us-try to 'take us' from behind... that guy was a devil, i tell ya ------------- we only know that we do not know |
