From their FB page:
NEWS!!! The Progressive
Rock band, Stick Men announce the release of their new CD, titled OPEN. The
recording is a departure from the previous two from the band (Soup and Absalom)
- it is all improvised, though based on prepared textures by the band.
Between their touring segments, Stick Men have been working for most of
a year on a major release box set, to be titled DEEP, with release scheduled for
Fall 2012. The OPEN project has given the band a musical breath of fresh air, as
well as allowing them more time to fine tune that later release.
In the
music from OPEN, the unique flavor of the band comes through as strong as ever,
with it's unique instrumentation; Tony Levin playing the Chapman Stick, Markus
Reuter playing his self designed Touch Guitar, and Pat Mastelotto playing an
assemblage of percussive devices executed on laptop, ipad & iphone.
The music can be described as both ambient and powerful. Track titles
are: "Amino", "Open, Pt 1 - Plunge", "Alabaster", "Open, Pt. 2 - Plow", Cyber
Shards", "Open, Pt. 3 - Truncheon", "Glass Heart (for Renee), "Time Capsule".
Running time 53 minutes.
The band, on tour now, and through much of the
Summer, is playing some if this structured improvisational themed music at their
shows, and the fan reaction has been great.

Hi,
I'll have to take a listen on this ... and one other person that I am not sure has played with these folks is Don Schiff, whose work can also be found with Lana Lane and the Rocket Scientists.
His use of the instrument, is very good and often times he is adding things on top of a bottom line that he has also setup ... I have not heard his solo album, either, or these folks in detail enough to give an appraisal.

Why do I get the feeling they are trying to stick it to us?
------------- Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...
