Do you have any detail as why John Mclauglin renounced his allegienece to his former guru? Is it true? Please fill me in on - factual - details if you care.

He achieved enlightment, and the first thing one notices when one achieves enlightment is that one does not need any gurus to follow.

All I know is that John and Carlos (Santana) made some of the most beatyful music ever while under the influence of Sri Chimnoy. And their collaboration album dedicated to Coltrane is fabulous.

prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer

BaldFriede. (I am still getting used to quotations on the Net.) So why, after enlightenment did he plummet as a musician/composer? Was that the enlightenment  you are thinking of? I don't think so.

Sean Trane. I do agree with you in this instance without reservations.

The question remains, as why did he become mediocre - by his standards - after dropping his faith, or guru? Please, I'd like to remind all respondents, I was after factual details here, not spiritual perceptions......, something I am not adverse to - but we are talking about inspiration, or the lack of it?
