A friend of my dad's gave me this amplifier a few days ago. It's an XL 20 model (as far as I can tell) and it has 2x10 speakers. Long story short...he got it for guitar but it was too loud for him. I just got around to playing it at a decent volume and it gets pretty damn loud. Not sure if the speakers were meant for bass at that volume for too long, but it's a clean sounding amp with reverb and a master volume.

Has anyone owned or played a Barcus Berry amp? I've been playing for 10-11 years and thought I'd heard of just about every maker, but never heard of this brand.

It's funny how the colors of the real world only seem really real when you viddy them on the screen.

Can't speak for the amp, but I've had a set of BB piano soundboard pickups since the '70s, so they have been around a while. See their website. Lot of product.

Cheers, John

Barcus Berry formed around 1963, and are more known for making pick-ups. You amp should be 120watts and those amps were produced between 1980 - 1985. I hope this helps.

I recently acquired a Barcus-Berry XL-24 amp and am researching as well, Close totheMoon! So very little info available on our amps! Mine has 2 12" speakers and says 300 Watts on the back. I have found some old references on the internet about it (as expected) being used as a very loud concert violin amp. I saw one post that the XL-24 is actually 2 power amps of 100 Watts each. I have never played guitar through it, but it did come from a guitar player. I was wondering if you ever learned any more about yours, like value?
