Hello all,

I am something of an amateur avant-electronic composer; I do a lot of experimenting with sound collaging and noise music and that sort of thing. However, recently I've had an idea that requires some outside help and the first place I thought to turn for help was the wonderful PA community. Bascially, the idea is this: anyone willing to help sends me a sound file of them playing an instrument- doesn't matter what instrument, or how long or what you play. I will then take these clips, and electronically manipulate, combine and rearrange them to create something entirely new. I would of course credit anyone who helped me out. Again- it doesn't matter what you play: scales on a marimba or screeching distortion noises on a guitar would be equally welcome.

If anyone is interested please just send me a PM and I'll give you my email address.

Additionally, if anyone would like to hear some of my work before they decide to involve themselves, I have two albums on bandcamp for free download and streaming:

http://electrifythounukes.bandcamp.com/" rel="nofollow - http://electrifythounukes.bandcamp.com/

or you can listen without even leaving the page:

Any assistance would be much appreciated; PM me if interested. Big smile

Thanks so much to those who have contacted me already about sending things; it truly means a lot. Please please please keep 'em coming! I literally can't do this without your help and the more recordings I get the more interesting and diverse the final product will be. These do not have to be high quality recordings, they do not have do be displays of any sort of instrumental virtuosity or anything like that. If you just want to open audacity and blow into your microphone, I will be able to use that. ANY clip that you can send me (that I won't violate copyright by using) will be incredibly helpful.

Thanks again to those already on board and please do not hesitate to PM me even if you're only marginally interested.

I really loathe the program

Posted By: broseidon
Date Posted: January 22 2012 at 19:57
Well, i'm a guitarist wearing 20 different hats trying to produce a prog metal/electronic album in my spare time.
What I have right now is scraps, pieces of songs, it's been challenging keeping myself on schedule and going from laying down bass over drums and then consulting guitars and keyboards for direction and then losing it because of noodling.
When I have someone else to work with then it all gets done in a timely manner, so if you need a guitarist who has too many ideas than i'm your dude, man.
My current bs:  http://soundcloud.com/progmanmike" rel="nofollow - http://soundcloud.com/progmanmike
Also, Cubase is an extremely inconvenient program, never again.

Hey broseidon sorry for the delay in my response. Like I said this will probably end up being more of an avant sound construction type thing then it will be "compositions" per say, but if you have any scraps that you wouldn't mind me using for that purpose that would be absolutely amazing. Feel free to PM me if you want.

Also, another huge round of thanks to everyone who has sent me stuff so far. The first track is almost done and I'll try to post it before the weekend is over so people can kind of hear what this is going to sound like. If anyone else would like to contribute that would definitely still be welcome, again literally any noise you send me will be helpful!

Thanks again all, and don't hesitate to PM me with any questions.

Hello all,

Sorry for the delay, I know I said I would put the first track up like a week ago but as usual life and schoolwork got in the way. Anyway, the (very strange) first track is now completed.

Thanks to triceratopsoil, dreadpirateroberts, and vompatti, whose clips were used in this track, as well as my friend Rob who sent me the narration used at the beginning. Thanks also to anyone who has sent me clips, rest assured that they will be used as the project progresses.

Hello again! 2nd Track is completed. Thanks to Pekka, vompatti, triceratopsoil and dreadpirateroberts for the clips which were used in this one.

Also, I know it's a bit early, but I always like having artwork to go with music so if anyone is a photographer/artist/whatnot and has something they've always wanted to see as an album cover...

Thanks again to all contributors thus far; I apologize for the slow rate at which this project is moving but unfortunately my free-time is scarce. LOL

Hello again,

As they used to say on Monty Python, "Now for something completely different." This third track is far more drone-like, with a more ambient texture then the first two. What I did for this one, rather than just sort of arranging clips people sent me, was stretch them out, electronically manipulate them, rinse, and repeat until the final product was completely indistinguishable from the starting elements. Thanks to historian9, Pekka, and dreadpirateroberts, though I rather doubt you'll actually be able to pick out your clips in the electronic mess that this became. As an added note, I also used sections of The Beatles' "A Day In The Life" and Kansas' "The Pinnacle," though I would imagine they're rather indistinguishable as well. Enjoy!

Photo is by Dan Keusal, slightly modified by myself.

Thanks to Dayvenkirq, Historian9, Vompatti, and Triceratopsoil.

Here I sincerely apologize for one thing: the strings you've heard on the recent video (1:14 - 1:23) are the work of one Archangelo Corelli. Gotta give him credit for that.

BTW, I've smelt some talent starting at 6:09 on piano. Why can't this be used in pop music of today Big smile ? I've also heard this noise intrusion a-la Klaus Schulze. Very nice in that third quarter. Well done Smile .

Another short, simple little thing to balance out the noisy madness of the last one. Notably, this is also the only track where I didn't do any drastic electronic manipulation on the clips: no extreme stretching, pitch changing or effect adding: just rearrangement and some very slight echo on some of the parts. Nonetheless I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. Big smile

Thanks to frippism, triceratopsoil and dayvenkirq.

PS @Dayvenkirq: I edited the credits on the last one to include Mr. Corelli. Thanks for the heads up.

Probably pretty soon. I'll probably do one more track and then put the whole shebang up on bandcamp. I'm coming up on 40 minutes of material and that's about where I like to cap my projects. Then it's on to the next thing. Wink

Well, I don't know, the bassist also sounds really handsome.

And yes, in my ever withstanding state of douchebaggery, I forgot to say the song sounds awesomeClap. Expect more random bass noodling from me in the future, whether you want it or not Big smile.

I really can't say this enough; a huge THANK YOU to everyone who contributed. This music was created by all of you just as much as by myself and I sincerely thank you all for the opportunity to put together what is (in my opinion at least Embarrassed) a pretty cool project. I truly appreciate it and if any one of you out there needs any help on future projects I would be more than happy to do what I can to return the favor.

On a more logistical note, if anyone would like to be credited on the bandcamp page by something other than their PA handle (or, heaven forbid, I accidentally left someone off), let me know and I will change it ASAP.

Haha, no formal agenda. I just find that whenever I work on a project there comes a point where anything new I try to start sounds too similar to me and I can't find the inspiration to make the tracks sound interesting rather than forced. When that happens I know the album is finished and I find a slightly new direction or approach to move in.

That's cool, dough. PF were looking for the new sound ever since Syd tripped and fell. Richard Wright was coming up with something jazzy and psychedelic. Then he was writing parts for Sysyphus, David was busy with writing a poppy-folky song, and Waters ... was busy with folk. You'll find your sources. I think at this point it's OK to copy or borrow from somebody, like Yes did in their early days before they started writing their own stuff.

Hello again, everyone,

For a while I've really been wanting to do something that would explore juxtaposing noisy, electronic kinds of soundscapes like I like to do with more conventional instrumental playing. It's a very loose concept I know but I don't really play any actual instruments well enough to do it on my own and after the overwhelming support for the last project I figured I'd be a fool if I didn't send out some feelers here. Again, it's a really loose kind of concept right now but if anyone's interested in that sort of thing, I'd love to do a more involved collaboration. If that sounds intriguing to anyone just shoot me a PM or an email and I'd love to spitball some ideas. Tongue

Would be glad to help (arrangement, mix, noises...). I've recently acquired a 50's valve amp radio (huge) that makes some of the coolest noises I've heard.

Hey guys, so so sorry that I've been MIA. My life has been crazy recently, and while that's no excuse for me disappearing entirely from the thread I hope you'll understand.

Unfortunately, I am going to have to put this project on a bit of a hiatus. My schoolwork has me on an absolutely insane schedule and at this point I really don't have the time to give the attention to this it needs, and above all else I don't want to go off half-cocked and put out something subpar.

I do intend to finish this, it just might not be for a little while. My sincere thanks to everyone who's been so willing to help and again sincere apologies for my absence.

^ I understand. You must be having a bad chemistry of classes this semester, like I had in my first semester at the university.

If any of you fellow noise-makers are interested, this is the latest thing I've put together. Hyper-minimal, repetitive noise, just like grandma used to make LOL
