Greetings all.
I'm Geck0 aka James and I'm a huge Van der Graaf Generator fan, which I
think is a good thing, although all my friends say it's not. I'm
24, so I'm a young'n really.
I also like the following:
King Crimson
Moody Blues
Gov't Mule
Allman Brothers Band
Derek Trucks Band
Fleetwood Mac (1967-1970)
Duster Bennett
Keef Hartley Band
Colosseum
Neil Young
Bob Dylan
Led Zeppelin
Deep Purple
Oh and Pink Floyd of course.
So a nice varied collection really. I've only recently started on
my prog journey really, besides VdGG who I have really got into.
I'll be at the VdGG gig on Friday too, so that should be a huge highlight for me.
I like some Yes too by the way, but haven't heard substantial amounts yet.
I hope that's a good start.

Welcome Gecko,
nice list of favourite bands, a bit short still, so time to expand![](smileys/smiley2.gif)
Since you like VDGG, I think Gentle Giant might be your cup of tea, but then again, maybe not. You might want to check out The Power And The Glorie and In A Glass House http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_BAND.asp?band_id=118 - Gentle Giant , but start with the downloads available on this site, and read the reviews, maybe that can get you started.
Concerning Yes (strictly 70's, later period is good also, but not up to par). Dependant on what you know and like of yes, but this would be my recommendation
Best albums: Close To The Edge, Relayer, The Yes Album
Easy to get into albums: Fragile, The Yes Album, Close To The Edge
Good compilations: Yesterdays (early years), Classic Yes (emphasis on Fragile and The Yes album)
Difficult to get into albums: Tales From Topographic Oceans, Relayer
Good but not for first puchase Yes, Time And A Word, Going For The One
Different, but also good Tormato, Drama
Anyway only two bands mentioned in this post, but shirley someone else will complement or correct me.
Again welcome to the forum, enjoy your stay![](smileys/smiley17.gif)

Well... Tuxon's given you plenty to chew on there so I'll simply bid you a cheery hello!

Aye, cheers Tuxon. That's a list of bands I have full albums of, or I've heard enough tracks to know I like them.
I forgot Jethro Tull from that list!
I also bought an anthology of Soft Machine 1967-1973 yesterday..., only
had one listen, so I'm not overly sure of it all yet. The second
era (I think from about the album _4_ onwards...) is far jazzier and
less progressive to my ears, but still good nevertheless.
I also bought King Crimson - _Lizard_ and I love it. Not sure if
I prefer it to _In The Court Of The Crimson King_ yet. I've still
also fully yet to appreciate _Larks' Tongues In Aspic_
I have heard some Yes and I prefer the pre-Wakeman days really.
Not sure about early Genesis yet, I really don't like Phil Collins at
all and I don't know if I can forgive him for the atrocious 1980s
rubbish he made.
Oh and of course, I'll probably like Peter Hammill's solo career
too. _A Louse Is Not A Home_ is probably one of my favourite
progressive tracks ever.
Stuff I've liked, after downloading tracks off here (but maybe too early to say if I like them yet to buy a full album or not):
Anglagard
Anekdoten
Bigelf
New Trolls Atomic System
Nektar
Opeth
Caravan
Focus
Mahavishnu Orchestra
Gentle Giant
Happy the Man
Porcupine Tree
Sigur Rós
Amon Düül II
Frank Zappa
Univers Zero
After Crying
A.C.T.
I shall be investigating The Flower Kings and The Tangent soon too, as well as Landberk and Per Lindh Project.
Any ideas what else I may like?
James.

You may not like Opeth, because you probably downloaded the easyest
song from archive, they are actually heavyer, much heavyer. After
Crying is a good choice.
Try some "Rush" to.

All I hear of Rush is on PlanetRock on Digital radio over here in
England and I haven't really liked what I've heard. Maybe they
play the more popular, more rock orientated stuff?
They are always playing Yes, Jethro Tull, Supertramp and that really annoying E.L.O. song based on Johnny B. Goode.
James.

Astrid Proll and Robert Wyatt are side projects of Fall Out Boy, ignore those n00bs. Try the new Pain Of Salvation album, it might be right up your alley. And welcome to the forum![Thumbs%20Up](smileys/smiley20.gif)

Hey, my name is Travis. I live in Los Angeles.
Some of my favorite bands include Yes, Procupine Tree, Dream Theater, Between the Buried and Me, Gong, and Gentle Giant. I like a few other genres like hardcore punk, and jazz. I'm a fan of Mahavishnu and Miles Davis. I recently started getting into electronic and ambient music like M83 and Radio Massacre International.
I play a ton of video games, and I'm really good at history trivia.
