I'm still having a little indigestion from the glut of 2011s that came out at the end of the year. I think Knifeworld has a 2012 release in the works.Other than that, I can't think of anything out on the horizon. I'm not a Rush fan in particular...

Same here.
I wonder if 2012 will be very poor in new releases.

Rush, of course. Also, the rumors swirl about the possibility of something new from the Flower Kings. Marillion are talking a new release for 2012. And non-prog, I am looking forward to the release of a new Van Halen album, and the new Black Sabbath with the reunited original lineup.

I like to be surprised and I prefer that each album wake you and I up from the long slumber of listening to ... nothing new!

I don't have confirmation of a new album yet, but I think Patrick Moraz and John Goodsall will release one in conjunction with their announced tour. With Percy Jones on bass, it should be a good one!!
Ray Bennett has promised a new Flash album forever, but I haven't heard anything official yet, except that the final studio mixdown is complete.

That looks good ... but to be honest with you the only tour of Patrick's I would welcome was a similar one he did years ago ... that he would just do individual shows at your home ... or something like it.
I would pay him to play for an evening, have a cup of tea, and tell jokes and talk about the music as he wishes and plays anything he wants ...
Some of these tours are ... tired ... to my ears ... and all I see is people trying to recreate a youthful feeling they no longer have and can't sustain ... and one hopes that if they have new material (big IF) that it can stand up to earlier stuff instead of sounding like re-hashing things.

Reading through some of the posts in this thread, I feel like I'm in a time warp. Guided by Voices? Anglagard? Spock's Beard with Neal Morse? Thinking Plague? I thought all those groups were kaput. I guess it's great news that they aren't.
The things I'm looking forward to most in 2012 are:
Another new one from Mogwai (might be too soon)
Something from Sunn 0))) (they are due for another mindblower)
Pavement's "Terror Twilight" reissued as a 2 disc deluxe package (this is actually in the can;but the release has been delayed for a couple of years now, for no apparent reason other than to annoy me)

Not for those of us in the U.S. It comes out here January 10th.
You Europeans always get albums released before those of us 'across the pond'.
I still don't understand why the record companies do it that way these days. I would think it leads to more piracy.

I read this at the Kohntarkosz blog (which is quite reliable):
blog admin wrote:
Magma's Upcoming Plans Mr.Calyx, who I have always found to be the most knowledgeable person about progressive music out there, has posted some updates about Magma on the Progressive Ears website. I will try to summarize.
1) Magma is going into the studio in early September to lay down the tracks for their new album. So far, only Felicite Thosz will be on the new album. Sl*g Tanz will NOT be on the album, as Vander says that the two pieces would not go very well together. Something that I find odd, since they have been playing Sl*g Tanz and FT back-to-back since early 2009.
2) Christian Vander is going into the hospital in September for an operation on a herniated disk. So, CV had to cancel his appearance at this year's RIO festival.
3) Zess will NOT be recorded for the new album. |

New Phideaux? I read something about a DVD and possibly a studio album (Doomsday sequel?!?). I'd be thrilled with either, honestly. Storm Corrosion looks really cool, especially since "Heritage" and "Grace for Drowning" were two of my favorites from 2011. I'd also like to see the live footage from the latter that SW promised. I know it won't happen, but a new Tull would be sweet, too, seeing as Ian has been promising since 2009, but seeing as he and Martin are touring seperately, its unlikely, unless the seperation proves to wake those two up into doing something fresh.

From the Burning Shed website:
The hugely anticipated debut album from Marillion's Steve Hogarth and
PT's Richard Barbieri features appearances from Danny Thompson, Chris
Maitland and Dave Gregory, amongst others.
"It goes beyond what you might expect from the two of us. The album
