I was thinking of how rare this is and of the fact that I know none. I would like you to help me find some symphonic prog (or even eclectic or crossover or heavy prog) bands wich are made of black people.
Like classic prog bands made of afroamericans.

Why? Can't I ask about afroamerican or african or whathever prog band made of black people for my personal culture. It's just that I find it rare, maybe it's not.

I know a lot of black musicians in prog bands but not of an exclusively black band.

I don't think it's racist to point out something rather obvious and ask why and axe(bad joke bad joke) who are the exceptions?

Tosin Abasi in Animals as Leaders immediately comes to mind.
Other than that, I can think of Jimi Hendrix (Personally I consider him progressive as he did a lot of things that weren't being done during his time)... Honestly I can't think of many, either. Metal bands like F5, Stuck Mojo, Rage Against the Machine, and Killswitch Engage, all have one or more black members.
There's a local artist where I live who plays really awesome proggy music and is black; he's one of the few local artists I actually enjoy listening to.
Race isn't really important in life, but I can see where it's worth pointing out that black people in prog are a bit of a rarity.

David Sancious certainly bears mention, but I don't think he's played in an all black guys prog band.

In JRf there is the band Osibisa. There are jazz fusion artists in PA that are black, of couse, such as Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock, just to choose two of the biggest names, and one night consider the groups they worked with as bands -- for instance, the Mwandishi group, bit then it depends on what you would classify as a band and what can be considered Prog. There are many black jazzers in PA who worked on Fusion albums and in electric jazz, but I don't consider itjem to be Prog genre artists even though I think they are perfect for JRF. I'm having problems typing on my iPod now and wrote much the same thing before, but accidentally deleted it.

There's a lot of black band in jazz-rock/fusion but my real point (sorry for not specifying it :) ) is that I was trying to find some symphonic prog (or even crossover, ecletctic or heavy prog) bands made of black members (or even just one).

A symphonic prog band made of black members, I would say is extremely rare, especially given the current attitude of the music industry executives. These folks are very visually oriented. To them, a symphonic prog band doesn't look like Kool and the Gang. Bands like this have had to go the jazz/fusion route or under made up genres like "space funk" or some other kind of nonsense. David Sancious and Tone came close but had limited recognition and limited push from the record company, probably because of that visual thing (or something even more sinister). A group like Mandre might fit but again their sound may have had to appeal to a broader market (folks have got to eat you know).

Mandré is really cool! And your opinion is just what I thought about the music industry. There must have been black symphonic prog band but they probably got rejected because they ''did not fit esthetically''. That's horrible, racism in our today society...

I checked all Symphonic bands, and I can assuire you there's no band formed exclusively by black members.
I believe that ANIMA MUNDI from Cuba, actual formation has two members of black inheritance.

It would seem to be rare.....I can immediately suggest the Art Ensemble of Chicago, who were a fusion of funk, jazz and world music. Quite remarkable.
My friend Mychael Pollard is heavily influenced by symphonic prog including Yes and ELP, he just posted this video to his Facebook page. Mychael plays nearly any instrument and is quite an impressive young talent!!

In 2007 I went to Varadero in Cuba (Really fun place and extremely cheap), and read somewhere that Anima Mundi was playing in La Habana, so rented a car and went o see them, what a show, great music, sadly La Habana is a depressive city full of prostitution and poverty, but Anima Mundi was worth the trip..

Although not remotely symphonic (more hard rock/psyche/jazz) I'm surprised that Living Colour are not on PA

Parliament's 1970 debut album, Osmium, sounds pretty proggy to me in places, as does the, of course related, Funkakelic debut album of the same year (and others).

^ they were suggested in Feb 11 but clearly flatly rejected. BTW I heartily loathe Living Colour but always thought Vernon Reid's shred credentials might sway some of the PA brethren

^ That was brilliant, I was hugely impressed (and I'm a shameless Emerson fanboy) The only thing that spoiled the vid was the bottom end is very boomy and slightly distorted.
