Probably doesn't belong in the prog section as I want recommendations from any genre of some good albums to stick on during 20 hours on a plane. Anything that doesn't have too much dynamics as you can't really listen to very dynamic music with so much background noise. I'm filling my ipod up today so shoot. -------------

Maybe Kind of Blue? I just used it last week for a 24 hr flight (amount other albums) and it actually helped me get some sleep, which is otherwise impossible for me.Though, if you don't like jazz, it might not work for ya ------------- We are men of action. I love Jazz, though i'm more into the avant garde side of Jazz. I already ruled out a load of jazz and avant though because it'll be too dynamic/quiet to actually hear. I thought about Kind Of Blue and came to that conclusion. Since i've tried it on a bus and even there it was too quiet. -------------

Don't know what to point out, I always think of an album I'd like to hear one more time in case the plane will crash and I'll die. Anyway, I've had a worse experience with music that wasn't dynamic, like The Köln Concert totally being drowned by the engine. I remember actually playing Kind of Blue once, and it didn't do much. On the other hand, listening to Wild Beasts' Two Dancers or Flaming Lips' Embryonic was terrific. -------------

I´m just gonna mention some different albums that actually penetrate the noise on my usual double deck bus: Heldon - Stand By Kraan - S/T Agalloch - The Mantle Grails - Deep Politics Ozric Tentacles - Erp Songs Cabezas de Cera - any of their albums really. Jeff Beck - Wired Neurosis - Through Silver in Blood Can - Monster Movie, Ege Bamyashi Porcupine Tree - Coma Divine Captain Beefheart & his Magic Band: Safe as Milk Samla Mammas Manna - Måltid Phideaux - Number 7 King Crimson - Power to Believe Van der Graff Generator - Pawn Hearts I gather many of these albums do rely much on dynamics, but I´ve never been interrupted by uninvited engine noise before, and these types of busses make a LOT of noise. ------------- “The Guide says there is an art to flying or rather a knack. I listen to Godspeed You! Black Emperor a lot when I'm sitting waiting in airports, especially 'Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada' and ' http://" rel="nofollow - F# A# ∞ '. Not really very good music while on a plane though.
Check out Caspian's 'The Four Trees', a very good post-rock album for sedentary listening. If you're interested in prog folk at all I would add Carol of Harvest's s/t album as well. It has some longer tracks that you can get lost in that help pass the time while your leg veins lapse into deep thrombosis mode.
Also in sort of a prog-folksy mode is Cerberus Shoal's 'The Land We All Believe In'. It's very American-sounding music but there are some longer tracks that I really like on planes, especially "Taking out the Enemy" and "Pie for the President". And of course Neutral Milk Hotel's 'In the Aeroplane Over the Sea'.

I could never get into TALES FROM TOPOGRAPHIC OCEANS until I had a long plane ride and was able to listen to it uninterupted. To me this is a chance to listen to albums that require you listen to them all the way through without alot of interuptions. For instance, I can never get into BITCHES BREW because it just doesn't work until you can just drift into its groove and let go a little.
So the LAMB, Pat Metheny's THE WAY UP, stuff like that. ------------- You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all. |

Nice list. I was considering Dear Hunter and TFF. Hadn't thought of MiRthkon, I listened to it on Saturday. Might be a good idea though. I'm sticking it on. And also it's about time I relistened to that Koenj album. So i'll stick that on as well. -------------

I'm so glad my player can hold my whole collection. The last long flight I was to Hawaii for our honeymoon. I don't think I picked titles specifically for the trip though, just mostly whatever was new to me at the time. I used to have the worst time trying to pick out CDs to pull out and put in a case to carry along.
This might be good as well, but I am just giving it a first listen:  ------------- Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Actually, perhaps it's the relative quietness that helped me sleep? Good point. I could definitely hear the engine when I started listening, for sure.
