Aside from the inordinate man-love RYM reviewers have for Television, The Smiths and Nick Drake, I believe the ratings are fairly representative and close to the mark. As Vompatti said, the actual reviews, particularly the garbled one-line bits of inanity, are useless. I personally love RYM, I've discovered tons of new music. Really, tons, not only prog, and it still is a reliable and powerful resource, also if you want to know about music subgenres, their first albums etc etc.... I do however feel that the reviews are poor and should be written a lot better. But even the whole website's system doesn't make me want to review anything. -------------

I guess to some extent I share the man-love for Nick Drake, but I see what you mean. Its still the best place to find out about most kinds of music... by far, imo. A quick look at RYM's charts clearly shows that music fans got way better tastes than music journalists. |
