Which bands/artists have you gotten into this year? The list will be LONG for me, but the list of this years purchases will be even longer. I estimate roughly 100 CD's so far. Geez... And the year's not over for a good while!

Only newly discovered artists I like a lot, I listen to way too much new music to count more than that Current 93 Autechre Tim Berne Bill Dixon Cardiacs, arguably (more of a deadlock, all their albums have some pieces bugging me, yet many for which I can't let the record slide) ... wait. Autechre?!!? -------------

Autechre!  My favorite electronic band of all time! I discovered them quite early, back in the mid-90's, and have never stopped loving what they do since. |

Not sure what you mean by "a strong change they'll pull through". I gather the genre of music they inhabit is not really your cup of tea. The stuff they did from Chiastic Slide through Untilted is some of their most "difficult" music, but beginning with 2008's Quaristice they started to get back to the feel and (relative) simplicity of their earliest albums. Well, if you become an Autechre convert or not at least you're interested in checking them out. |

I meant precisely liking them against all odds. Untitled was one of the albums that did that from me, along with Draft 7.30 more recently and another one I can't remember whatsitcalled right now. -------------

I see. If I was to recommend any Autechre album to a prog audience it would be Untilted (long compositions, several movements of music changes within each track) |

But Autechre's IDM is much better than Aphex Twin, for instance. RD James should just stick to techno and ambient. Drill and Bass is pretty terrible anyway. Not much! Only Changes and Larsen. But I think I discovered Larsen in late 2010.
Changes - folk band who started 1969. A predecessor to the neofolk genre.
Larsen - Italian band, I just checked and he/they are on progarchives, which I didn't expect. Categorized as post-rock.
I've heard lots of new bands though, but not really "gotten into" them.

As for the topic...hmm...it is difficult for me to remember such things. I've certainly been digging into Faust alot more lately, but I've known them for quite some time. Ditto for Miles Davis. Ditto for Tangerine Dream. I'm sure there is at least one more that fits this.

I've discovered more new music this year than any other year of my existence, and there's still 4 months to go! Most of the artists I've gotten into recently are a result of joining this forum. For 2011 nothing really new. Got my first Mono album, my first John Zorn titled album, Jakszyk, Fripp and Collins, Bjornstad/Darling/Rypdal/Christensen, Ukab Maerd, is a Djam Karet spin off. Herd Of Instinct, would be the only completely new to me band. ------------- Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I think the 2010 Mercuries were held in 2011, I need to check. But even if I got to know them in late 2010, I only really got into them this year. Same for KK! I think I stopped reading PG a couple of months ago  |
