Hi to all!
I am going to buy a mp3 player for this holiday. I want it to contain a lot of songs, about 300cd's. I haven't got a clue as to what those players are about, so who can help me out in this department??
for example I have seen the iAudio m3L on the net...is it any good?
Oh and I want to spend about 200 to 300 euro's.
thanks in advance anyone who helps!

Try out Creative MP3 players. They are a bit bulky, but you can get the 60 GB player for about 260, I believe.

Whatever player you buy, it should definitely support a "raw" interface, meaning that you can transfer mp3 files to the player simply by copying them via the Windows Explorer (player mounts as mass storage device).
I have a Panasonic player with a 256MB SD-card and it's driving me crazy because the only way to transfer files is via RealOne Player.

Yes, the Creative media players are great. I have a 40 gig one and it holds 250-300 albums with no problem. I probably have enough room to double that.

I have a 40 GB apple iPod and I love it to death, though there are many brands out there. it works great with a PC and can be used as essentially a mass storage device as mentioned above. I'm not sure where the dollar is in relation to the euro, but mine was about 400 american bucks. a 20 GB version is much cheaper but I have that much filled already and I plan on getting much more!

Whatever you do, do NOT get an iPod. I love Apple, and I wanted
one for the longest time, but I heard that it only caches a certain
amount of music into its memory at a time and doesn't cycle it until
the cache is spent. This is fine for most music, but for prog
epics, this means large pauses in the middle of the song.

I bought the iAudio after much reading about it, and after hearing many many bad noises about the iPod (and I found the creative too heavy and big)... http://www.thetechlounge.com/review.php?directory=jetaudio_iaudio_m3 - http://www.thetechlounge.com/review.php?directory=jetaudio_i audio_m3 here is a 6page review of the iAudio. I believe this deveice to be the best amongst it's competitors, and a worthy partner to enjoy prog with!!
Thanks to all for the comment!

not entirely true, man. i listen to 'A Change of Seasons', 'Supper's ready', 'Octavarium', '2112', and several classical symphonies that clock in well over 20 min regularly and i've never had such a problem. the other good thing about iPod is there are so many readily available accessories specially made for it.

I must agree with GS. I have listened to many long songs and it hasen't happened yet. Also, i've had it for awhile so, if it was going to happen should it have happened already?

Maybe I'm wrong, or maybe they fixed it with newer models. I've
just read a lot of reviews that when you hit the 25-minute or so mark,
it has to recache.

I recently bought the new Sony HD5. 20Gb of music heaven. I've seen some reviews of the software but found it not to be a great problem - if you read the instructions first. The HD5 can convert to MP3 or their own system (Atrac) at various compression rates. I have used the 132 Atrac standard which gives about 400 albums.
I did a quick comparison against my domestic CD player (Arcam) and though there is a difference - the HD5 is not quite as rich sounding, there wasn't a vast difference - pretty good when you bear in mind the number of albums it holds and the convenience. I'm now looking for a car stereo with a front face Walkman socket.
There is a premium to pay on battery life too, as the claimed 40 hours battery life is for albums recorded at the lowest rate of 48. Still, I'm getting 20 odd hours which is more than an iPod. Also you can get spare batteries for it as well and replace the exhausted one like any normal battery. iPod's need returning to the supplier to have one replaced. The other issue (minor at the moment) is I can't get any accessories for it yet. I could do with a posy leather case. Still - It looks great and is about £200. Thoroughly recommended

Iriver h320 or h340!!!!
I love mine its great I watch Genesis and Yes videos on it and its relatively cheap. About the size of an ipod, with better battery life, no annoying software (like itunes ), and bright color screen, video capabilities, radio, voice/radio/line in recorder, its amazing!
