no nether nor other
to me I like both but I think Mickey Mouse have lost some of its sharm, it seems like the people behind it is getting empty of ideas, where as Donald duch you can make many cool adventures stil becouse you can ether make it into a Scrooge Mcduck story which enriches the Donald universe, or Donald himself is very adventurous becouse he hates to loose, (he is a McDuck also and that explanes it) and you have Papirinic storys which ads another dimention to Donalds charcter,
I feel Micky Mouse sadly have really bad writers and storytellers, a bit to conservative, (he should hang out with Scrooge a bit more) . and that sadens me becouse I really admire Micky Mouse he is brave, and smart,
Donald have been lucky to have three or four of the most innovative comic drawers the last decade from Carl Barks, to Don Rosa to Marco Rota and many others, who have pushed and pushed the storitelling and drawings to a really high level. I feel that these artists are influential to artists outside of Disney as well, i would not be suprised if Don Rosas detaild work have founf its way into other comicbook artists, or Carl Barks adventures have popped into others creative minds
so over all Donald is much better, richer, more adventurous and more interesting character then what Mickey have evolved into, yes Mickey ws first, but Donald have had a more interesting up-bringing and development ..

Never cared for Disney. Although I suppose Donald is the better of the two because he can't control his temper and doesn't have to wear pants.

Donald Duck - only for Donald in Mathmagic Land - I loved that film when I was a kid.
anyway:
Donald: "Having buck teeth is insufficient grounds for a divorce"
Micky: "I didn't say Minnie had buck-teeth, I said she was fking Goofy"

but a litle honour for Mickey Mouse, this is one of my favourite quotes, it gives me tears in the eyes couse its so beutifully said and meaningfull
"We felt that the public, and especially the children, like animals that are cute and little. I think we are rather indebted to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Chaplin" rel="nofollow - Charlie Chaplin
for the idea. We wanted something appealing, and we thought of a tiny
bit of a mouse that would have something of the wistfulness of Chaplin —
a little fellow trying to do the best he could. When people laugh at
Mickey Mouse, it's because he's so human; and that is the secret of his
popularity. I only hope that we don't lose sight of one thing — that it
was all started by a mouse." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mickey_Mouse#cite_note-11" rel="nofollow - [

Hah, I love how in that family tree, they block off the nephews father.
Donald Duck I think (despite loving Mickey growing up), because of Scott Walker.

Donald Duck. Because Mickey is "Mr. Nobody" in the best case, and a bourgeois character in the worst case, in some of the comic strips with his nephews Morty and Ferdie. There are some great Mickey stories though, by Floyd Gottfredson and other cartoonists. There are also some good old Mickey animated movies.
Donald Duck on the other hand is a real character, with a wide palette of emotions. Also, some of the best Disney animators / cartoonists were Duck - related artists, like Carl Barks (USA), Daan Jippes (NL), Marcus Rota (IT) and Keno Don Rosa (USA).
So Donald it is.

i think Fethry duck is one of the best Donald Duck caracters, his happy, oppurtunistic attitude and postitive good mood makes him one of the most satisfying caracters to read, the rare strips with both him, Gladstone Gander and Donald Duck are in is hillarious

Donald Duck is the man (or the duck!). Always preferred him over Mickey, but I can enjoy them both. Whenever I look back at old cartoons with them, I forget how enjoyable they are. I probably prefer Warner Bros. characters overall, but the Disney has more of a nostalgic connection to my childhood, up until I was around 6.

Fethry, yes! I had to look in Google who he was (in Holland, my country of origin, we call him Diederik). The Disney studios used him a lot in the 1960's, and after that period he seemed to be a bit out of fashion (or are there some contemporary cartoonists who rediscovered him?) Great character indeed!

So Fethry is progressive duck after all, no fossil . Slightly neo-progressive duck.

Maybe the wink indicates that you’re not entirely serious, but since I doubt that you would have made a comment like that if it was Hamlet vs Othello, I just want to mention that my uncle has used a story by Carl Barks in lessons on dramaturgy.
I once had the privilege of translating one of Barks’ stories (together with my brother, but still). I came up with a translation of trick or treat that is used by Norwegian children today, and it earned me a mention on Wikipedia.
OK, another vote for Donald, mainly because of Barks.

As people have said, Mickey Mouse is one of the best examples there is of the "inoffensive hero" a character who is completely bland and flavorless, aside from the fact that he is "good", whatever that means. See also Harry Potter.
Donald Duck is actually entertaining and has a personality.

That might be true but I think they crafted Donald to be the polar opposite of Mickey. And when it comes down to it Uncle Walt had the final say on the product and where they took it.

First of all, I'm not quite as familiar with Don Rosa's work as with Barks's, but from what I have seen from Don Rosa, I would l would like to give a bit of an impression.
I used to be a bit of a Barks - purist, but these days I would like to be more open minded, and I think Don Rosa really adds something to the Duck heritage. He's very, very talented, and as you say, he has an eye for the detail. I do like his style. That he is a very important Duck artist, is without a doubt.
I love the Duck famuly tree you posted, BTW. It's not the first time that I saw it, but I like the fact that he filled in some gaps, and it shows Don Rosa's talent for details (like the twisted branches, and the thing you mentioned about Donald's father).

Right, by Floyd Gottfredson (drawings) and Bill Walsh (text). Eega Beeva's stories (Gamma in English) were in the Dutch Mickey Maandblad (= Monthly). I'm not familiar with them, since I was only subscriber to the Donald Duck Magazine, but I know some of Gottfredson's strips and he did some great things. I love some of his stories.
