But hopefully you'll let me indulge just this once! I've been on this forum a while now.

My father needs some support. Please become a fan of my father. He just wrote an excellent book on mindfulness and emotional health and he needs support. Publishers want to see a broad platform and in order to do that, people need to become fans. Once you become a fan, if you can post this on your walls and/or share this through your friends/contacts it would fantastic.

Thank you!

p.s. And buy the book when it's finally published because it's really something special.

I won't out of principle. A book like this wouldn't help me, so why do anything about it? The only way someone could help me with mental health is if they took a case study of my daily life and gave me personal feedback on what it is they think I could do differently, and even then I'd probably ignore it because I value no man.

Really guys?  Can't just like something to help him out?  You could even like it and then post something like "I'm just liking this to help somebody else out", they aren't going to check your page, just the amount of fans.  Who cares if it doesn't apply specifically to you, it might help someone out.  Either way, it's at least if not more productive than fictional writings.

Liking that (mostly empty) page is about as helpful as signing an online petition that the book should be published (that is, not at all). Jake has been doing http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=80159" rel="nofollow - a lot[/url of http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=79388" rel="nofollow - self-promoting lately, which I find irritating, and I don't know about anyone else, but trying to deflect a hostile response with the thread title only provokes me further. PA is not here to fake random things for you.

What circumstances force someone to use Facebook?  I'm absolutely never on mine and don't see how I'd be forced to.

I'm never forced to use it, in fact I hate going on it. I could care less about anyone's updates, etc.

I will occasionally use it if I get invited to a party or something, to see where it is; or if I'm tagged in a photo. That's pretty much it.

I didn't expect this to really get positive feedback, but if you need a reason to do something that is kind for another person (especially with the attitude "what's in it for me?") then you should probably read this book... Wink

Every time I've been invited to a party the location has been specified clearly enough in the invitation.

I should probably read it before I can "like" it.

Right, but when I get the e-mail notification, I need to log in to Facebook to look at the invitation.

I don't think I'd enjoy a party arranged by someone who puts the invitation on some disgusting social networking site instead of sending or preferably voicing it directly to the particular people they wish to appear at this event.

Then you shouldn't have posted it, and I don't think there is any book in the world that could persuade me to help other people game Facebook.

Well the point is you're not helping facebook, you're helping my dad. My dad honestly has no interest in using facebook and it was with much reluctance that he made this page, but the publishers need to see this. It's an actual requirement if he wants to be published.

eew birthday parties. Doesn't your attending of such an organised event where many purchased gifts are exchanged imply your acceptance of a capitalist society?

Capitalist.

Capitalist.
I didn't purchase a gift, and as far as I know all of the few gifts purchased & exchanged had cost relatively little. It was a nice, quiet, non-capitalist birthday party with candles and chocolate pie.

I know what your saying, but some of my friends throw big enough parties where it's not worth it to call or text individual people. (obviously if they are a close friend, I probably already knew about it before the invites got sent out.)

People use facebook to keep in touch with people, it's an unfortunate fact of life. I don't like it either.
