pick your favourite talk show host that is on the list, i just picked my favourites which i think is funny and are good hosts, in different ways, I respect them as persons. i feel not sorry for having let out some contenders, these are my favourites and they are the one I have inclueded in the poll.. -------------

Other: David Letterman. He has great musical guests from various genres. Subtle humor and isn't an idiot. From the list: Jon Stewart.

From the list: Charlotte Church or Lily Allen.
Not on the list: Simon Dee or Clive Anderson.
I can't think of any TV that's more inane than a talk show, other than talking heads in general, (which let's face it are about as watchable as a radio broadcast), even parody talk shows are vacuous and braindead dribble of forced comedy and ill-concidered it's-satire-so-it-must-be-hilarious that's about as funny as a half-chewed stick of celery and almost as interesting to look at. At least a half-chewed stick of celery hasn't got a book/play/film/record to plug. ------------- What? |

I went with Billmaher Khadaffy.  Stewart and Colbert are must see TV for me, too.

Conan's old show on NBC pummels everything here. Only seen the new show once and it was just alright. The writing was meh, but Conan's still the king. Leno is by far the worst. Craig Ferguson is a joke and only right behind Leno for the worst. Letterman is kind of losing his mind. He used to be great. Jimmy Fallon is awkward, but his show has decent writers and a great band (The Roots). Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are great, but alas, I have no cable. Jimmy Kimmel was way better with Adam Corolla on the Man Show. Surprised Howard Stern didn't make the list. Agree about Craig Ferguson, i don't like him at all. Also, what do you mean Letterman is losing his mind? In some cases this would be good.

Now hooold on, Ferguson right behind Leno for worst? Ferguson's show may be a dimly-lit hole in the wall but that's what's cool about it, and yes he is a joke in the best way-- Leno is just pure unfunny embarrassing trash. And Howard Stern is hilarious, always has been. |

They're both on Hulu and their Comedy Central websites (although Hulu is better). Personally, I can't really watch them anymore: they both have about 15 jokes they cycle through and apply to whatever current event every episode, and I understand the repetition when they have to make a show so quickly, but it still gets boring. ------------- if you own a sodastream i hate you |

David Letterman Besides his greatness, there is also a personal connection there. Kinda the talk show host of my family But Conan is just the man, hilarious sh*t. Also got that surreal Letterman touch (but even more out there) and more edgy. Even before all the controversy I never found that bland and safe Leno any good. |

I think you know exactly what I'm talking about, but fine. For Jon: Play a clip of someone saying something, interrupt and respond as if they were being reasonable and you did not know he was about to say something crazy, resume clip, he says something crazy, act surprised even though you wrote the f**king show, make a stupid face and shout something. Play clips of a bunch of people saying the same thing, end with something incongruous from a movie that is slightly connected thematically or phonetically. Make fun of your own terrible accent (then why did you do it?) Make fun of your own terrible joke/say "I got nothing" (then why did you tell it?) Complain about Fox News. Mock the appearance of whoever you're talking about, preferably through a jarring transition from the previous subject. I'm tired of typing this now, and I haven't watched Colbert recently enough that I can pull out a list like that as easily, so I'm done. Except I will note that Stephen spends way too much time eating things on camera, and for some reason the audience always f**king loves it. ------------- if you own a sodastream i hate you |

I agree with all of this besides picking Letterman as #1. I kind of grew up with Letterman, as my family always chose him over Leno. I still think his show has great atmosphere, production, and musical guests, but I find his monologue somewhat stale and disconnected. And his improv always feels like an inside joke that nobody is in on besides himself.
