I would really like to participate as a special reviewer, specially on the classics of prog rock and reviewing with detail the new releases! If there's anything needed please let me know.

I'm not entirely sure on the requirements of being a Reviewer or a Genre Specialists/Team, but i know you will need to post many well written and lengthy reviews of artists from alot of genres and popularity. Also, upping your post count and making yourself more well known couldn't hurt!

Glad we have someone who is interested in writing reviews though!

Hopefully someone more qualified than me will answer here too.

There a few things you should consider if you want to become a reviewer. I'll list them here - but remember, there is no direct rule, so just do your best!

1. Review a number (usually 30+) albums from a variety of genres. So don't just review Yes or Pink Floyd albums, try and review some lesser known ones, or ones from other genres.
2. Make sure your reviews are written in English, and are comprehensible. It also helps to be polite, and not to slander without reason.
3. Try and give them some substance - don't just write 50 words about how you like only one track etc.

Apart from those, there aren't to many other things to do. Just enjoy reviewing, and soon enough you'll be able to present a case for further honours. And by the way, it's by invitation only.

No but Ben got it down pat. Reviewing a bunch of Senmuth albums doesn't hurt (their all free with very few reviews- probably because he has nearly 100 albums LOL)

I was a 4-star special super Reviewer once - I can never go back. See, my problem is that I put dirty words in my reviews and that's a big no-no. I also utilize racism, ageism, and rage ironically - something not to be attributed to an esteemed member of this most illustrious of online writing teams.

Here's a tip off on where to start:
UK act Big Block 454 is one of the bands giving away their music on Bandcamp. US artist Dw. Dunphy another one. Neither of them have too many reviews, to put it mildly. Have a go at those for starters. I'm sure others can point to artists with legally free music to get and write about as well. Of the kind that aren't extensively covered previously.

It'll show your strengths on how to describe music that isn't already well known, which is always a good place to be in if you want to show how good you are at this task.

Just start writing reviews. If they're good, they'll attract notice. And keep writing them over time. A lot of people get bored after 20 or so, you'll need to show you're going to continue. Frankly, most of the people who regularly review get promoted unless there's a problem, usually in the 50-100 review range.

What do you look for in a review? What's helpful for you when you're deciding whether to spend your cash on music? Provide that in your reviews.

You can begin by asking yourself, if there really is need for more Yes or Genesis reviews - and maybe start out with something a bit different. If you´ve only just started listening to "prog" and you haven´t got any further than the usual suspects, then stick to what you know, but make it sincere and personal.

As things are now, and the living costs for everyone here triple (even for the millionaires here), we should maybe look into the possibilities to make a top 50 list of free albums.

But back to topic: Reviewing unreviewed free albums is a sure way to get noticed here by the powers that is.

If anyone here wants to compile and maintain a top 50 free albums list and by then keeping the interest for PA up for those of you, make that us, who has problems spending money on albums when all the bills is slowly making that luxury impossible, please get in touch with one of the collaborators and I am sure we can arrange something.

Keep at it.

But anway; what is this special thing about promotions anyway ? Your partner will just think you are a sad, sad loser and leave you for a 35 stones heavy coast-to-coast trucker. Let's keep the promotion aspirations to the army (which has several vacancies in Afghanistan..... sign up !) and our paid work careers. The grades in ProgArchives is just here to organise the substantial, very substantial workload here. Unless you are willing to put in at least 20 hours a week into ProgArchives (reviews and serious work. Not hanging out in the forums), don't even think about getting promoted. ProgArchives is a monster and it eats you alive.

Don't fantasise about befriending a lion. Instead of having a dinner with it, you will become it's dinner.
