I'm sure the idea's been suggested before. But I was wondering what the support would be if someone planned a cover of an epic song using recordings from musicians on PA!?

It would be difficult to do, getting support, people willing to record themselves agreeing on one song (or multiple) to cover, I think it work best if one epic song was done. And I'm sure if there was enough attention, duplicate instruments would be requested so instead of just using the best, each person is assigned to a certain section. Or for more obscure instruments, the whole song.

Not so much a band get together, but just members strictly from PA wanting to send in recordings of them playing the same song and someone putting it all together to see what we get.

I love the idea but don't have the chops for anything musical - unless there has to be a section with some metal screaming. Then I could give it a shot! Wink

For problems like these we could cover an entire  diverse album. So something Eclectic. What about Beardfish!? Or just a compilation album, I would want to have as many possible musicians as we could, so preferably something Jazz for the abundance of instruments, or something very long to get as many people in as we could.

Last time we tried this it failed miserably.  We had a blast making song titles, though.

We kind of failed, although we did actually record some music. Mostly sh*t.

I suppose it might become resurrected sometime, but it's a logistical nightmare.

I got kazoo!

And I don't mean to make our own music. I'm thinking more of a cover mainly.

I would be ok with this as long as it wasn't just random noodling.

Finishing up work on a small studio at the moment and am getting more interested in the idea. Cover or original

I'll keep a watch on this thread and see what happens...

Cover would be so much easier, at least as a starting point. I'm willing to do any guitars or bass that are needed.

I don't have time to do the production work though. I've done that before. It's great fun but time consuming.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

I play guitar too, have a bit of recording gear.  Let me know if something gets started up, I might find the motivation to do something.  I'm more of a rhythm player, can't be arsed to do solos.

Well then. With all these volunteers, shall we? I say let's go for it. But before anything we need a song. Or an album, what do you all think we should cover? I think something in the PA top 10 would be fun. Maybe Thick as a Brick?

Might be too demanding, but even more practically because it's two 20-minute long songs. Could be annoying.

My vote is for a Pink Floyd album, or a collection of Floyd songs. I feel I could probably play most any Floyd on guitar, drums, bass, and maybe keyboard if I really sat down and tried, so that's what I'm comfortable saying.

But then again, I only have one mic, now, so unless everyone is fine with drums sounding like reverby ass, a big nope to playing those.

I spose. My participation is probably limited by the difficulty of whatever we choose, though.

I'd be down for some early Floyd.  We should do Obscured By Clouds.

I would help but I'm a lo-fi poet backed with acoustic guitar kind of guy.

I think we need a better way to plan this. Such as an IRC chat room and a specific time to talk...

MSN? Or, the dreaded Facebook? It has chat, we could form a Group, set it to private or secret and then there's a facility for group chats, if everyone is online at the same time etc?  (then comes the joy of scheduling w/ multiple timezones Smile )

Private FB groups are the best way to do that. Assuming everyone has a Facebook

Let's do it, the hardest part about things like this is scheduling a time for a meeting on the internet. Everyone's from everywhere, so what may be early morning  could be while they're sleeping (the next day). But I think we should message anyone who's said they're willing do it to find a time range where they're comfortable to talk either today or tomorrow then go from there.

For those of you who are interested parties to the collaboration!

I've gone ahead and made a Facebook profile for my PA identity. From there, once I have some friends, Facebook will let me actually create the Group so we can chat, organise details etc.

http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002680206059" rel="nofollow - http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002680206059

As soon as I've got the group going, I'll post a link for that too. I just need one friend (hahaha) to start the Group. Then I can add a few of us as admin, so it's not just me adding/accepting members.

Hope this is suitable for those of you who are interested. I understand if you're not into Facebook, but want to be still involved with the project. This thread will, of course, remain quite active if the project can get going.

thanks
dpr

Which kind of Yoko? The '(everyone thinks) I broke up the Beatles' kind, or the 'brilliant conceptual (but less brilliant musician) artist'? Wink

I hadn't actually listened to any Moody Noobs until now, I still like Vompatti's contributions to Russian Tea Cakes the most.
