Necessary Monsters is the name of a staged song cycle by violinist/singer Carla Kihlstedt (Tin Hat Trio, Cosa Brava, ex-Sleepytime Gorilla Museum). Based on Jorge Luis Borges' Book of Imaginary Beings, this very ambitious project needs your donation to happen. They've already got $8,429 out of the $25,000 required for this project but she's only got 15 days left.
NOTE THAT EVERY DONATOR WINS A REWARD DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH THEY'VE DONATED
Your donation will help fund the musicians' labor (enough for them to pay the bills, I believe - as most of the musicians are leftists [IIRC] they won't spend their money on superfluous stuff), allow them to pay for the rehearsals, merch, recording of the CD and possibly a DVD.
Donate if you can. Carla has less than 15 days left to fulfill the goal.

Ouch, she should have tried harder to get the word out 2 weeks ago, I don't think she's going to make it. Wasn't Tartar Lamb most of the way there by this point?

And her number of backers isn't much higher; someone must have pledged a ridiculous amount.

I don't see why this thread was moved to Get the Word Out as I'm not affiliated with Carla Kihlstedt and/or Necessary Monsters in anyway. Also, IIRC the Tartar Lamb II Kickstarter was on the Prog News & Press Releases forum.

Damn. Maybe they live near there and really want to see the show...

http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=66919" rel="nofollow - The Tartar Lamb thread was in News , and I assume it was moved because of chaos. If you bother an admin with a PM they'll probably move it back.

This request just make me strengthen in my opinion, that 'art rock' music as general, should be supported by govermnets and culture institutes, as classical music does. Otherwise, there will be much more rediculus donations requests like this.
I am a huge Carla fan, and listened to one song from 'nessecary monsters' in her site, and it sound great. Nonetheless, I am not sure at all I'm going to donate, and if so, just a few bucks. My econimic condition is not 'glowing', and my few donations goes for sociaty\political goals in my country.
The whole situation is truely should be solved by culture institues\goverments IMO.

Bump, only a few days left.

I don't think she's going to make it, she needs another $3000 in the next 3 days and their overall average per day is well below $1000. It's too bad, especially when you consider that http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/smbctheater/smbc-theater-goes-to-space" rel="nofollow - this happens in less than a week. You suck, internet.
If I still had a job I would probably donate, but I don't so I need to contain my cash flow. However, I admit I am tempted to get the 4x5 rendering of an imaginary being and request MLP. I think Carla would draw a cool Nightmare Moon.

Oh hey, they only have to get $250 in the next 68 hours, I guess they will make it. I think they would have done a lot better if they had put something personal from the band below $40 and hadn't so sharply limited the personal stuff. All the personal things are 10 people or less (except for the $250, which is a whopping 14), while SMBC Theater is signing 565+ copies of the DVD. Don't be so lazy, Carla.

Only just seen this. I'm totally not in a position to donate right now (still out of work and right in the middle of moving house) but it seems as thought she's hit the stated target with 67 hours to go!
Looks like a marvellous project. Hope it goes well for all concerned!

Amazing bump in the past 12-24 hours, I guess a lot of folks were just waiting.
Looking forward to hearing the project.

So with 10 hours left, the time has come for us to wrap up our fundraiser. And what better way to do that than with a sale?
The
Alkonost package is now on sale for $1000 in the final countdown! (Down
from $5000.) It features an original song by me, commissioned by you,
with you as the exec producer, helping me craft the characteristics of
the piece!

I'm too lazy to watch the video-
Can anyone tell me why this needs $25,000+?
Because I'm starting to think the next Epignosis album is going to cost at least ten grand to complete...
