One of the most successful gaming franchises to come of Japan, and probably in the world, they are favourites of mine. Almost every single one is brilliant (excluding maybe ones past X, although XIII was pretty good), and have pretty much been the cornerstones of my childhood. Extremely deep games that you return to after playing them 10 times and still find something new, a little bit like good albums in a way

Which brings us to the music: staggering. Nubuo Uematsu has been described as the John Williams of gaming, and I disagree: I think he's better and more creative than John Williams if I'm honest! All consistantly have a stunning soundtrack, to compliment the amazing gameplay.

Surely the Emporer of all RPGs? Let's celebrate it with a vote on your favourite

It's a really tough call, but due to how influential it was on the installments after it (Final Fantasy VII almost directly copies the storyline), the characters and how deep they are, the storyline, the bosses, the growth system, the MUSIC (hats off to Dancing Mad), the depth to the game... Everything is perfect. The SNES graphics don't bother me in the slightest

(Followed by X, V, VII and then III)

Honestly i don't know why, but i never played the series.
They always interested me in a way but never did.

I was initially confused because My FF2 was on SNES, but that was the initial outside-of-Japan title.

Anyway, I have only played the FF1 (NES), FF4, and Mystic Quest.

Not enough to vote, but I like these games.  I really ought to play 3.  When 3 came out, it was huge.

Edit: By "3" I mean 6.  LOL  Stupid title changes!

I almost flunked out of college because of VII.

VII. But I've only played a few of them.

Vi followed closely by IX - these are the two that most represent what I love about the series.

VII, IV and X deserve mention. I'm in the middle of XIII right now and not really caring for it too much. But it does make me appreciate XII more. V was also pretty solid with the class system, but the story wasn't quite as strong.

I've only played and beat 1,2,5,6 & 7... I got pretty far in 8 and tried 9 and 11. 10 looked really bad to me, but 3 & 4 are next on the list. I doubt I'll go past 9.

Of these, I definitely like 6 the most followed closely by 7.

I doubt any game will ever top FFVI for me...

I've played VIII, IX , X, X-2, XII and Tactics. Haven't beat IX though.

I've played and finished all of them from 1-12, including chrono cross, chrono trigger, vagrant story, valkyrie profile, xenogears, final fantasy tactics (most of squaresofts games in general - used to be my favorite game company until I discovered bioware/black isle studios and Bethesda).

My favorites are difficult to explain. I guess it would be this way:

1. Chrono Cross (for the music, visual elements, gameplay, and plot)
2. Final Fantasy VII (for the music mainly, but also for the plot and gameplay)
3. Final Fantasy X (Just for the plot, but it's my favorite plot in the whole damn series)
4. Vagrant Story (Love everything about this one)
5. Final Fantasy VI (Plot all the way)
6. Final Fantasy VIII (Nostalgia hits me hard, it was my second Final Fantasy game - actually adored the combat/leveling mechanics)
7. Xenogears (Long, but brimming with ingenuity)
8. Chrono Trigger (The Snes epic, pals)
9. Final Fantasy V (The class system was loverly)
10.Final Fantasy XII (Worthless plot and music, but the gameplay really surprised me)

Tactics is definitely my favorite. But of the titles listed in this poll I think I'll have to go with XII, with VI being a close second.

Honestly the Ivalice Universe might be the best thing to come out of the whole series.

Dragon Quest is a better and more consistently awesome series.

I've played VII through XIII, except for XI (nobodies played XI though) and have V DL'd on to my PS3 (havnt played yet though) and will soon add VI as well. XII is definitely my favourite of the bunch followed by VII.

I've played VI probably around 30 times. It's absolutely perfect. VII, IV, IX, and Tactics are almost as good.

Obviously you've never played a Final Fantasy game.

FFVIII for me, but Chrono Trigger is really my all-time favorite game period.  I just played through it again, and it's just as glorious as ever.

Why do they call it Final Fantasy when it never ends?

Because FINAL Fantasy 1 was Squaresoft's last ditch effort at a game which turned into a sleeper hit. #1 WAS to be their last game, and they keep making them because it's their biggest franchise

Honestly, most of my favorites stem from nostalgia. I don't play video games anymore. With a child, a family, a full-time job, online school, and many other hobbies I have to squeeze in, videogames simply aren't on my daily schedule, anymore. I really f**king miss that.

I've played most of them and I have to go with VII on this one.  It was the first one I played, but it also has my favorite cast of characters and soundtrack.  I really enjoyed the whole storyline as well.  Really, I felt that I got the whole package with VII.

Really? The first games I remember that did that to me were Warcraft 1, Heretic 1, Doom 1, and Diablo 1. Good times.

I see you have failed to detect the irony in the title and the subsequent releases. Wink

The irony is that the game was Hironobu Sakaguchi's last ditch effort for success in the gaming industry, hence "Final Fantasy".  But I'm glad you are aware of that. It gives you a reason to post, I suppose.

I never enjoyed VII all that much.  I've played it on PlayStation though (the original system), so the load speeds were horrid.

VI is my favourite though.  In fact, I like the Japanese original (therefore FFIII) translated into English, rather than the US release.

I really like Lufia and Lufia II though.

Yeah, not Square/Enix but I don't care.

And yes, Secret of Mana and Legend of Mana are also great.

Kefka is just the best baddy.  I know people go on about Sephiroth but nah, it's Kefka.  There were a few scenes in FFVI that upset me.  Like Kefka with the Espers.

Also - Kefka actually succeeded in destroying the world. You have to take him down after he does so and becomes a demi-God

As far as I know he is the only Final Fantasy villain to have achieved this? As I said, the man/clown/thing is a menace!

Kefka is like the best villain ever, but Sephiroth pretty much destroyed the world as much as Kefka appeared to have.

Hard choice for me between VI, VII, VIII and XII, but had to go with my first RPG game ever, Final Fantasy VIII, though I know VII may be better...

By the way, the last one sucks??? Haven't play it yet, but i haven't heard any nice of it...

FF6 is the best, FF2 is the worst. I have played them all.

XIII was not very good. It wasn't all bad but as many many people have said, it's just so linear. When things open up in Chapter 11 it comes waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too late. Also, some of the main characters (particularly Vanille) just fail.

Lifestream kinda destroyed a lot of planet and he wrecked cities himself, but you tend not to care because you didn't sympathize with Shinra.

Kefka is still infinitely cooler though.
