Well, I'm listening to the sample...  4 minutes into it...  it seems sexy so far, and thankfully, the PT influence I hear is indeed the 90's PT...

...don't ya hate it when the topics get moved at random?  It's hard to guess where they'll go next!

Yeah...  we've got several catagories, and it's their whim where the belong.  Truthfully they do a good job of proper sorting, with the occasional misplacement, but honestly...  I hate having topics moved, because the majority of people here post in the Prog Music Lounge and hardly check, say, recommendations/listening to.

I mean, what *are* we supposed to discuss in Prog Music Lounge if a topic like this belongs in Listening to?

Yeah, it sounds like the more spacey stuff Porcupine Tree did on their older albums. The music and lyrics are quite simple and you get really hokked on the melody. I really like them and sometimes, it's good to listen to something else than complicated prog. I have been listening to a lot of RIO lately but sometimes it's just to much... so I put Pineapple Thief, I close my eyes and I get transported on a cloud :) Man Overboard, I recommend Variation On A Dream from them, it's really good. You can download the mp3 on Progarchives, that's how I discovered them. You'll get a good idea of their sound. Remember Us (the 16 minutes track) is just delightful !

Yep. Let's look at it this way - we're giving Maani something to do!

I saw Pineapple Theif last November. They were really quite good! Although the next act was IQ, so they were no match i'm afraid!

Bruce Soord (guitars/vox) is really the mastermind behind Pth & is a very cool dude ... he also personally sorts out the mail order stuff and sends nice friendly emails ... I really like that!. He sounds a little bit like Billy Corgan .. thats the Smashing Pumpkins connection ... also a touch of Radiohead?

Sorry TP ... *ringing bell*   UNCLEAN! UNCLEAN!

I'd be interested in hearing some reviews of 12 Stories Down. I have Variations On A Dream and I absolutely love it.

Pineapple Thief are one of my latest addictions and I'm a huge Porcupine Tree fan.  Go to Pineapple Thief's website: http://www.pineapplethief.com - www.pineapplethief.com and download the free MP3s (samples and full-length songs) and listen to some great innovative tunes.  The song "We Subside" is simply a modern-time "Strawberry Fields Forever."  This is some very dynamic music that I think most modern-day Progressive Rock fans will like.

Its actually 10 Stories Down, although they did release an earlier version of it called 12 SD. This was released in limited quantities due to a problem with the mix - apparently it sounded so awful  - "sonically flat" according to the PTh website -    they re-recorded the album and jiggled a few songs around, and hey presto ... 10 Stories Down was born!

10 Stories Down is a really good album.  It's several steps up from Variations in production and song writing.  Also, the new version of the album is a lot better than the beta version.  There's more variation and the songs have all been changed a little or (in the case of Light UP Your Eyes) been completely reworked.

Also, there were only about 100 copies of 12 Stories Down that had sound problems.  Mine is just fine.

I loved 'Variations On A Dream' (Double CD), and '132': but i thought '12 Stories Down' was a little disappointing. I hope '10 Stories Down' is an improvement.

Pineapple Thief is a lesser known Porcupine Tree in my ears. Hell, even the name is similiar! I do like their work though, in the same way I like Porcupine Tree's work. Good stuff, I need to buy an album.

My copy arrived yesterday and so far have listened 3 times now and I think its  certainly on a level with the quality of Variations. Fave track so far is  Clapham!

By the way, is there any way of getting hold of the double cd of Variations? - I hear the 2nd disc is amazing... I have llooked everywhere ... not a sign of eve a 2nd hand copy

The 2-Disc version of 'Variations' (limited to 1000 copies) is getting quite hard to find now, although I know somebody who got a copy for less than £10 on eBAY. That is probably the best place to find one nowadays. The '8Days' bonus CD is indeed very good too.

well, its early days as I've only listened to PE1 once ... I find DG's raspy vocals quite annoying, although  his voice soars like a bird in places, too ... I like the melodic bits, overall its quite an emotionally demanding listen. I guess I need to give it more time. I also have Remedy Lane & 12.5 Live to listen to yet
