What picks/plectrums do you use?
I use this for my Fender Strat:
This on my other electric and acoustic guitars:
And this one for the bass:

I'm not really picky about my picks. My current batch are blue.
Eric Johnson's CD Bloom comes with one he likes to use. It's small thin and red.

typically 1mm or less, but occasionally also heavier picks. The reason I've preferred Dean Markley picks over all the others over the years is because their surface is far less slippery than that of the typical pick.

I love the sound of thins to strum acoustic but I tear them up too quickly.
My dad turned me on to the idea of a three headed pick, if something slips in your hand you're good and if you chip one tip you're still good.
------------- You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

It generally depends on what guitar I'm using and what song I'm playing
I'll use a .5 for strumming acoustic songs, then go for a heavier pick when I'm picking or playing my Strat.

Wait a minute ... actually right now I'm using these:
Very similar to the Dean Markleys - and even more "grippy".

I've got some red, black, and Ultex Jazz IIIs. Tend to favour the Ultex ones. Bloody things keep going missing though

I was going to add, it seems the really skilled ones (Beck, Knopfler) just don't bother with a pick at all.

Well goody for them and their oh-so-advanced fingerpicking style; "oh yes, we just use our hands, cause, well, we're English and it's cool and we save hundreds on picks."

Well I have a bunch of Dunlop nylons .60mm very light and pliable as I ain't much of a fingerpicker. Wish I was, because it seems to get fairly good results for the two I mentioned

Anybody remember the stylus pick?
http://www.styluspick.com/" rel="nofollow - http://www.styluspick.com
The idea is that the special shape of the pick forces you to really only use the tip of the pick - and the more you do that, the faster you'll be able to pick because the actual distance of the movement decreases.

that makes sense after looking at the design, less a pluck and more a strike, wouldn't mind trying one

Heavy to extra heavy, doesn't matter the brand. Basically, if I can easily bend it, it's rubbish.
I use a pick and my free middle, ring, and pinky fingers for rhythm and comping.
