Not an E/O, more like a request:

Dream Theater has released a new picture with the new lineup, and I thought it would be appropriate to add this one in replacement of the old one (sorry MP Unhappy)

Not absolutely neccessary to replace the old one.

I know, but to keep stuff current. Just a suggestion, I guess.

I suppose it might be nicer to have a composite photo, like what Yes has.  But I'm with Ian- for now, no reason to change it as yet.  Plenty of bands have a more "classic" lineup in their photo than one representing the current one.  Let this new drummer make his mark first.

I think it's not our duty to keep things current.
Bands can change drummers every day if they like, but we all are busy with posting, reviewing, correcting errors, finding better pictures of mediocre covers of their mediocre albums etc. Wink

Besides, this picture looks a lot better in terms of layout, neatness etc.

What if I change a few details in the bio of a few artists and I don't tell any of you? Will you find out? Will you send me a bill for all the paint?

I've asked for Admin guideance on this..I'm out.

I don't appreciate ACR's ultimatum at all.

it was simply a suggestion, I thought we might want to keep stuff current. If people disagree, I'm fine with that.

Speaking of which, the bio is 8 years old. Someone might want to update it.

So what's the argument for change (precedence?) and what's the argument for keeping the same pic. This all seems like a storm in a teacup.

I think there are a couple of issues to be considered and resolved here. Not specifically about DT, but in general.

Firstly - What should be the site policy on the photos? Current line up, first line up, classic line up, best looking line up, band preferred photo, etc. At present, we only have the facility to add one picture, unless someone creates a collage, so a policy would be helpful.

Secondly, who makes the decision? Personally, I think the appropriate genre team should decide. I certainly don't see it as an admin issue (although Admin should help to identify site policy) or an Errors and omissions issue (unless we currently have no picture).

This is more of a "help us improve the site" issue, and perhaps should be discussed by the collaborators in their area too.

If a ruling is required from mailto:M@x" rel="nofollow - M@x , I'll ask him for it, but i think it would be better if we can go to him with some sort of consensus. Meanwhile, I'd suggest we leave DT as it is, pending clarification of the policy.

That makes a lot of sense, really.

I think bands should be represented not by their most recent photo but by one that represents their most classic and prog-related (not our subgenre) era of a band. In DT's case, please, Portnoy was the founder and was in all the band's albums. It should stay.

Next: Changing Genesis' pic to on with just Rutherford and Banks...

Agreed. That's why I commented as I did on the first page.

Although it seems there is no policy on this( I tried to find one) I think in general we have used the more established band pic.

All your suggestions sound very reasonable Bob. So thanks for that.Thumbs Up

It's been made abundantly clear that the picture shouldn't be changed to I doubt asking Max is really necessary. I guess we should all just move on now LOL

Actually, in this case, I'm in favor of using the original lineup picture:
