I won't be voting (in this poll).

Shouldn't we be able to rate the options above from 1-4, so that the option with the least votes drops out and their votes are added to the others (and so on...).

I'll be voting Yes in the referendum, with No as my second preference.

Just to add, I totally missed the massive thread on this topic in General Discussions. I hereby declare this thread to be A Waste of My Time (and also presumably yours, if you're reading this).

1. Yes
2. Yes

On the basis that there are apparently only 3 countries in the world using AV, and they don't like it, I'm voting no.

Just to say quickly, this is a nonsensical claim made up by the No campaign. There is no reliable evidence that Australia, for example, want to get rid of AV. Besides, if it's good enough for the Tory leadership elections, why is it not good enough for us proles?

I can understand that point of view. The problem I see with AV is you can't predict how people will use it. Will they understand it? Will they even use their 2nd and 3rd choice options? It's difficult to see what the outcome would be - more coalitions?

I'm sure people will understand it, it's really not that complicated at all. If they don't wish to use their 2nd and 3rd preferences then that's their choice, their vote will count just the same. The outcome is likely to be a shaking-up of the notion of "safe seats" (though by no means a total eradication of them) and increased representation as each MP must win at least partial support from 50% of the electorate. The chance of more coalitions is no greater under AV than FPTP.

Erm... poor reasoning, but too late to explain why. Nevermind.

Yeah, and it's ironic that the AV referendum is decided by a FPTP vote Tongue
