Roxy. For me, I've never considered Roxy pop. Art/glam rock yes. 10cc, art/prog pop.

There's rather too much method behind the madness -- deliberately humorous -- to be really insane (in a literal sense), but I do know what you mean ;) and it's fun stuff (I, on the hand, am rather more insane). I wonder if another rather crazy, or tongue-in-cheek band, the Cardiacs were influenced by 10cc (as well as other humorous ones). Thanks for the clip. I didn't really know 10cc and just found out what the spunky band name references). I used to like Roxy Music's debut. I won't vote due to lack of familairity with 10cc, but will be looking into the band.

more crazy music
and also 10cc knows how to make a epic song, thye are the poppy equivlent of Gentle Giant
also Eric Stewart is the most underrated singer/guitarist in rock, this comes from a Roger Hodgson fan , Erics singing voice is really good, and his guitar technique and guitar (Gibson les paul ,) is stunning

Roxy Music always had strong prog credentials with Davy O'List,John Wetton and Eddie Jobson in their line up at one time or another.''Viva! Roxy Music'' is one of my favourite live albums.
10CC were a very clever pop band. Quite fond of them especially thanks to Rubber Bullets which seemed very important to me at the time.
Sparks were the other clever pop band of the time. This Town Aint Big Enough For The Both Of Us another brilliant art pop/rock hit from that time.

yup, 10CC no match (i'd have included Queen in this poll as well)
Actually there are only two roxy albumùs worth hearing... the first two with Eno... the rest is insipid pop with a crooner boy ahead of the band.

I voted for 10cc, because of the talents and inventive nature of the band members and what they produced; but Roxy had far more style and the bravery to challenge the mainstream of their time, so it was a difficult choice.

Certainly more intense with a darker edge. 10CC were more light hearted although they were very welcome.

Never liked Roxy very much. Don't see much musical substance and they
took themselves far too seriously. They seemed to mistake fashion
style for musical originality. Eno's great abilities stuck out
like a saw thumb, so he had to go quite quickly. And the later albums
took the abysmal soft disco style and transformed it into so much ooze
'n' schmaltz, it's unbearable.
Now 10cc was another matter. I
always admire artists who can just ignore outward fashion and produce
really great music and top it all with lyrics that are original, thought
provoking and funny without wearing thin. As someone else mentioned, Sparks also fall into this category.
So no contest: 10cc is my choice by far.

Roxy was all attitude, and interesting though it was for the time, it does not even approach the invention and imagination of 10cc. Just wish they had been less pop-orientated in going about their business.

When you consider 10CC and their music history and the people they have worked with, Roxy Music comes off as just another glam pop band. Sadly, it was too eccentric in its humor for most people to be able to listen to it, and the English humor does not make it too far across the oceans ... except for a song or two.
Roxy, is more pop song oriented and designed, in order to showcase Bryan Ferry and his musicians. In the long run 10CC will probably get better remembered, because of the film work of 2 of its members, who are still involved in the field today.

^ History is pop culture. Roxy will be better remembered. And I don't know anyone who gives much crap about 10cc's (former) members being busy with films.

I think "better remembered" is judged by how well the music sells today. They recently remastered the entire Roxy catalog and even released a collected works boxed set. The 10cc catalog is in dire need of an upgrade....my mid-90s are passable on sound but flimsy on liner notes, artwork and background info.

This is a tricky one for me. My favorite album between both bands is Sheet Music by 10cc, art rock at its finest! but other than that their debut and "How Dare You" are really not as good (never heard the rest).
On the other hand Roxy Music to me always seemed more stable and released more than only one great album. They have my vote.

I don't like 10CC, I got bored every time I gave them a chance. Which is strange, artsy pop-rock should be right up my alley (am I using this expression right?)

10cc always seemed to me a band that could have pushed the art element a little more than the pop element, and wthey would have been more to my taste. I do like some of their songs, but up against Roxy Music they fall short IMO. Roxy gets my vote.
