Steve Howe, John Wetton, Patrick Moraz, Steve Hillage, Ritchie Blackmore, Alan Parsons and Edgar Froese, among others form the lineup for William Shatner's upcoming release which includes covers of artists such as David Bowie, Hawkwind, Queen, Golden Earring, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, The Police and others....

I can think of little better than William Shatner doing prog. His album "The Transformed Man" remains one of my favorites. P.S. Holy cow! Manuel Gottsching and Dave Davies are on there too! This is going to be amazing! -------------

That is kind of awesome and unexpected. "Has Been" was a really fantastic album. Shatner is really great at surrounding himself with talented people and bouncing ideas off of them. And it's not as if prog is a new territory for him. He played with Adrian Belew on his previous album.

That is not a question that can be answered in a single sentence or a Wikipedia article. Nothing created by man can encompass the true being of William Shatner because he is more than a man. When he dies, the world will weep because we will have lost our greatest treasure. If you haven't already checked out Shatner's previous album "Has Been", do yourself a favour and do so. Just don't expect the far-out theatrics of The Transformed Man. Has Been is actually very, very good and features musicians such as Ben Folds, Henry Rollins and Joe Jackson.
The album is mostly original material, with the exception of an amazing cover of Pulp's Common People. A quick search on You Tube will turn up an terrific live performance of this (from Leno's Tonight Show, I think) where Shatner, Folds, and Jackson really rock it out. Fantastic. Best among the original tracks are You'll Have Time (my selected "funeral" song), I Can't Get Behind That (duet with Rollins), and Real.
The only thing that worries me about the new album is the fact that it looks as if its featuring all cover versions. -------------

I have the album and its a blast! lotsa special effects - begins with aq countdown and blastoff in rocket. all is spoken word with excellent music throughout.
