Hey, fellas.  I'm the new guy...or somethin'...but you can call me 'Hey, the guy wearing the thong' or 'Hey, you.'...or 'Dano'...that'd be cool, too.

Anyways, I was just flickin' through my playlists searchin' for some bass rifs to play, then I got to thinkin' of which band I play the most...then I got to thinkin' of who my greatest influences were...I play the bass, *points to the cool bass av* and I tend to play a lot of chilli peppers and RATM.  So I guess Flea and Tim would be my greatest influences.  I'm just lookin' to see who plays instruments in here, and if so, what your 'inspirations and influences' would be.  Could spark some interesting discussion...so start postin' *shakes fist* do iiiiit.

Welcome, the guy wearing the thong! I play the saxophone myself and I think I get a little inspiration from John Zorn and Ian Underwood. The rest comes right out of the mind!

Welcome aboard and have fun!

Hi Dano, welcome to the Forum!

Hammond player here (1971 L122 through Leslie 145) influences? Too many to mention, but you could probably guess many of them.

Scum? Now that would be the stuff that floats on top of the cream, right?

Quick question - to keep this within the topic field - are there any prog bassists you're influenced by?

My main prog influences (as a bassist) are Pete Trewavas and Colin Kimberley

My Non-prog influences are JJ Burnel, Keith da Bass, Ian Kilmister, Robbie Shakespear, Jasper and Cliff Burton.

I think there's another thread on who plays what, but hey, I don't mind repeating myself. There is a good recent thread on bass sounds which may point you to bassists you haven't come across - there were several in there I'd never heard of.

I also play guitar, piano and sing (classically trained to Honours Degree level). I'm not too bad as a lyricist either.

I play the bass, currently clinging to my Cirrus 6...that's my main source of inspiration at the moment! Love to play it!!

My main influences are otherwise Tom Kennedy, Jimmy Johnson, Sean Malone and Tony Levin, all four being masters of tone and cool fill-ins. Kennedy, Malone and Johnson are also among the most technically skilled bassists around in the progressive/fusion area these days, genres which actually are boiling over with talent. Those three are standouts, though.
I also dig Trey Gunn, I wanna learn how to play a stick/Warr guitar, too! Got to get one first, though.
