I have rated some albums in 2010.But I reviewed them this year. For example I had rated Marrow of the spirit and before some minutes I reviewed it.In this case, does this review count for the 30 reviews which need to become a prog reviewer?

I have to disappoint you if you think 30 reviews is enough to become a prog reviewer. Smile
It's not exactly so.

Have a little patience, keep on reviewing, compare your reviews with good ones written by other members, improve your skills. And if you are a good writer sooner or later you'll be promoted for PR by admin team.
By the way, please don't forget to insert white spaces after commas, points etc and before brackets, it's obligatory for PRs. Smile

Good luck!

...What? How can you not like putting a space after punctuation? That is how English works.

All reviews count, but don't hold your breath for PR any time soon. Your reviews are very short, difficult to read, and not particularly insightful. Sorry, but you can always improve.

I don't think they give those out anymore, but it was a meaningless title for long term active members anyway. All it does is let them vote in the collab album lists every year.

You did not adequately answer why you are disregarding one of the central aspects of English grammar to make your reviews significantly more difficult to read.

You don't have to like me, but it's the truth. I'm actually a bit confused why you even asked the question, why wouldn't it "count"? But if this thread gets you to start using spaces it will be worth it.

It should be, it conveys nothing except that you've been on the the site too long and made too many posts. I don't think there's even any formal definition of what it is or what deserves it.

At least you have a large post count...

But on the topic, I've written one review, and I've been here for almost a year. Here's the thing: If you spend less than an hour typing it, ur doing it wrong.

VIP member? I don't remember any such thing? Does that exist?
...is that a reference to honorary collab because those seem to be guys that were collabs but then decided they didn't want to do that any more but still get to recieve a couple extra stars under their pic.
edit: above their picLOL

No, VIP member is 3 stars. I vaguely recall there being more, but the only ones I can remember are http://www.progarchives.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=8040" rel="nofollow - itsy and http://www.progarchives.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=5156" rel="nofollow - Vompatti .

No, 9 posts per day is respectable, mine isn't even much higher. But you got to keep that up for a couple years. You don't have a lot of posts until you hit at least 5,000.

I can tell you that it certainly deters me from making it to the end of your posts. With the limited experience of one human lifetime I cannot ever tell you what it is like to truly be another person, but I imagine that there are others who feel the same way. It also doesn't help that you insist on using non-standard size/font.

Or there's a conspiracy and they didn't invite me to the meetings, I don't know.

Not exactly a central aspect of English grammar, more what may be labeled an ortographic convention.

Quote I don't like very much to insert white spaces after commas. That's why I don't do it.
LOL
I like such linguistic idiosyncrasies. More of this kind, please.

Actually spaces are a relatively new invention. We assume people have been using spoken language pretty much since the beginning of mankind (spoken language doesn't have spaces), written (alphabetic) language originated approx. 2000BC (some logograhic versions earlier). Spaces were invented approx. 900 AD, so almost 3000 years of writing without spaces and 1000 years of writing with spaces.

I don't find Prog Geo's posts difficult to read. The punctuation and upper-case letters are sufficient to indicate sentence stop. But if you want to be prog reviewer (for whatever reason) I'd suggest that you use spaces after punctuation anyway - in many cases, it just is a good idea to play by the rules..

Logical. Yes, even with the greek sunshine.By the way, today is a very shiny day here. You must not forget that in Brazil there's a depressive black metal band which is called Thy light. Generally I have a problem with the aura and the atmosphere of the world.

I agree that observing a space is a basic rule that should be observed by everyone... Makling legible post is the most common courtesy to others, especially if you want tobe answered....ConfusedOuch

HP,
Mind you, he's not the only one doing this.... Our future top reviewer (a matter of weeks nowWink)  systematically doesn't observe this rule either...

Funnily enough,  he does put a space after a coma or a semi-comaConfused, just not after the dot.

I'd also suggest most everyone reviewing to use paragraphs to structure the reviews.

I guess it counts. On your http://www.progarchives.com/Collaborators.asp?id=31429&listreviews=alpha&showall=true#reviews" rel="nofollow - collaborator page  the review is registered:

4 stars artist.asp?id=1933" rel="nofollow - AGALLOCH album.asp?id=30572" rel="nofollow - Marrow Of The Spirit | Review.asp?id=311802" rel="nofollow - review

Nevertheless, when I view the http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=311802" rel="nofollow - review page , this review is dated Nov. 10 (apparently the date of the rating; the review id. suggests the same).

Hi George,

Well let's see... you have reviewed 7 albums so far, although you have rated another 200. You seem to have a very eclectic taste with 14 subgenres represented in your list. That's good, but I don't see any RPI or Krautrock in the list. You might want to rectify that, heheh! (There are some wonderful Italian albums that are available to download free.) I only know the Marillion album from those you have reviewed... you are certainly enthusiastic about the music and you manage to convey that feeling successfully. That's another plus.

I am an old guy so you have the advantage of youth over me... there's no need for you to rush your reviews. Take your time to hone your reviewing skills. I don't think I'm in any position to advise other people but I would recommend that you read other people's reviews, not to copy them but to see the wide range of ways of writing about music. I see you joined about 5 months ago; there are people here who have been members for years and posted hundreds of reviews before gaining Prog Reviewer status. Just keep your enthusiasm for great music, stay active in the forums (and try not to take some comments to heart Smile), and keep writing till you develop your own style.

I'm sorry if that isn't much help.

I haven't reviewed 7 albums. I have reviewed 17 albums. I must inform you that I buy and I download many albums. That means  that I have bought and I have downloaded krautrock and RPI albums. But I stop to rate because I started to write more reviews.I wouldn't like to become excessive with the rating.

After reaching the milestone of my 100th review, I wrote to a collaborator and asked, in private and politely, if I would be considered.

I was lucky in that the people who decide these things judged the quality of my reviews strong enough to be promoted. I really took that as a big compliment and was very grateful.

However, and here is where I think your underlying problem is, I would make one very important point: If I had not been promoted to PR, I would have still reviewed, tried to improve, but most of all, continued to participate in and enjoy a site I love. The title doesn't really matter, the site does.

As far as your reviews go, can I make a suggestion, and for your posts as well? English is not your first language, so it is difficult, but try to slow down a little, and let patience take over from enthusiasm a bit more. The quality will improve dramatically, believe me.

Lastly, I am very sorry to hear you have been depressed. I have not posted this on the forum in any detail before, but I was off sick from work for six months last year owing to stress and depression bought about by a very serious incident directly related to my work duties. Although I am back at work full time now for the first time since last July, I still have certain issues related to the incident that made me ill in the first place.

Aside from my wonderful family, the thing that really helped me pull through a very dark and worrying time was this site and my music.

You clearly love your music, of that there is no doubt. Sit back, relax, and enjoy. It's the best medicine you can have - take it from one that knows. Don't worry about titles which are, at the end of the day, not that important - a love of life is.

Feel free to PM me if you wish to discuss further, because I will not expand on the points I have made here in public.

Hug

I want to tell you something. As a listener and as a fan my goal is to promote some bands that I believe that worth a listen. But especially my goal is to promote extreme prog metal and prog metal. That's why I want to become a prog reviewer. But as I had said I give up reviewing.Because it's very difficult for me.Not only because of my english level. Also it's difficult because this is my style of writing.I can't analyse very much some things. So,I won't write reviews very often. Finally, can someone tell me how I can become a VIP member?

I have no idea how you become a VIP member.

Is that clear enough now?

This has been said already. He didn't  like that answer or maybe didn't believe it.

I have done some research and...

" to recognize the fidelity, presence, friendship and comraderie, of members that are here for a long time and, for several reasons, bear no title of Prog-Reviewer, Collab, etc."

It isn't a promotion but an aknowledgment.

Seems to me if you are not spotted by Admin you have to be nominated.

George,

If you want to promote certain bands or a particular subgenre, probably the best thing you could do is to write reviews. Remember, reviews carry much more weight than ratings alone. And by writing reviews your English will surely improve. By the way I have read six or so of your reviews and I understand them fine. If you find it difficult to analyse music then try writing about your own thoughts and feelings when listening to the music. I can't tell you any more than Ian on the VIP thing but if you really want to be a Prog Reviewer don't give up on that ambition.

Τhat's the reason why I started to write reviews.Because they have more weight that the ratings.

... plus the fact that any member can post a review and it will remain on the front page for 24 hours or so, how cool is that ?!

Still don't like spaces? I doubt you'll ever be a prog reviewer.
I've heard M@X is going to use some vintage equipment for such writers:

^Until a few years ago I didn't use a space either. I thought the punctuation served as a space instead. I just followed the conventions os printed word I saw in books and the internet etc eventually.

Only in some. As far as I can tell it's a common rule for most languages, including Greek. There is nothing to understand, it's enough to remember. PRs and VIP members should have a good memory. Wink

If you persist in the omission of spaces I have another suggestion: start a review with a HTML tag like "<font size="+3">" and end it with "</font>". I see that the usage of larger fonts instead of spaces after interpunctions make your posts rather legible. Moreover, such a review will occupy more space of the PA homepage during the first hours after posting. Wink
