Wife is going to Paris, good for her and her friends  She asked me if there are some special shops she should visit during her stay there.So, where's the best progrock record shop in Paris? Any recommendations re new french prog cds. I have my Magma collection so i'm lookin for new prog and not necessarily zeuhl. Thanks! |

Me and my fiancee actually went for a similar quest when we were in Paris for a couple of days, and Bimbo Tower was the closest thing we found. http://bimbo.tower.free.fr/" rel="nofollow - http://bimbo.tower.free.fr/ It was a really small, really weird place on this little excuse for a street, no signs on the window or anything. I'm not sure if it had any windows actually, it might have had a small sticker with the shop's name on the door. There was lots of weird obscure stuff, including a comic book about Kekkonen  If you're looking for some good clean prog, I'm not sure if they have any, but it's surely rich in avant-garde obscurities.------------- http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=42652" rel="nofollow - It's on PA!

Hahaa, fellow countryman was the first one to help me in this case! I've heard about Bimbo Tower, but I think that it's not a shop for my wife Next time I visit Paris I'll check this shop.Thanks! ps. today is a crucial day for both Kalpa and HIFK, hope the season continues both there and here  |

Gibert Jospeh on boulevard St-Michel : they have a prog department in front of the metal one. But be careful, Magma is in the jazz department. And you can find some goodies in the "independant" department, and the "psychedelic" one, that is in between the folk one and the rock'n'roll one. They have a lot of good second-hand CDs.
If you are interested in classical music (as a progster, you must be interested in classical music), there is a broad choice, from early to contemporary.
Besides, you have Crocodisc on rue des écoles, with a lot of prog vinyls and CDs.

They also have a more little corner with some 70's rock. You could even check Parallèles : 47 rue Honoré 75001 Paris (métro : Chatelet) http://www.librairie-paralleles.com/" rel="nofollow - http://www.librairie-paralleles.com/ Even if it's more a bookshop than a record shop, they have an interesting choice in second hand records, from CDs to LPs in many styles - including progressive/psychaedelic rock. The only problem is that their record racks are a bit "disordered". |

That's an excellent music store of the larger kind. Speaking of labels, many Krautrock and avant-prog bands (especially Japanese) are in the their "Indie" section. The FNAC at the Les Halles commercial centre also has a lot of progressive rock. I think this is the largest music store I've ever visited. But their prices are a bit higher than at Gilbert Joseph, and they don't have second-hand. |

 Here's some more thumbs up for monday  I remember going to a bunch of Gibert Joseph stores (or then i remember wrong and it was a chain of another name) and they seemed really good for such mass market places. what more could i say , its where i go each time i go to paris but you can try the FNAC too, les halles or montparnasse and there's a few other little shops, gonna try to check them for you

| Having Lucas' post in mind, I went to FNAC the other day and searching more attentively through the Jazz section, voila! There was a "contemporary jazz" corner where they had Magma, Offering, Vander, Jannick Top, Weidorje, One Shot, Univers Zero, Art Zoyd, Present, Jean Louis, etc... Plus tens of John Zorn/Tzadik releases, of course, and lots of free jazz / improv. |

I've been to FNAC at Les Halles! They have a pretty big selection of music! I was browsing and I found most of the things I wanted to buy at the time, especially the prog music. I don't see that kind of stuff here in Southern California, so it was like heaven to me. |

I went to the FNAC just today. I think I will keep sticking with Souffle Continu, where the same records can be found less expensive. |
