Hey guys,

My friend and I have a prog rock radio show, and I know very few of them are around.

So if you are interested in hearing prog music with discussions, reviews, interviews, performances, etc then tune in.

The easiest way is streaming from the website:

http://www.radio.monash.edu/listen

every Wednesday at 12pm EST

Or, you can listen the podcast any time you like:

http://soundcloud.com/progress-on-radio-monash/show-1-progress-on-radio

Thanks

Nathan

Hi,

Thanks for posting, but the bigger font is not going to make you look. or sound better, I don't think.

All in all, there are enough of these shows on the Internet, and the single biggest problem with them is the repetitive mature of the material they push and play.

In the end, after you hear it for an hour or 2, the show is over ... and the same thing over and over and  over again, and you will play the same band again tomorrow, even the same song!

One of these days ... one of these days ...

Good luck in your venture, of course!

The bigger font is there merely to indicate an announcement and hopefully draw people's attention.

Thank you for the encouragement. We are from Australia, and if you would like to direct me to a Prog radio show in our country I think you would be giving up before long. There aren't any.

We have hundreds of albums of material from Procol Harum to Phideaux, from King Crimson to Maudlin of the Well, so you will not be hearing the 'same thing' each week. The real reason to listen, perhaps, since you can hear these artists on last fm and other internet sites, is the discussion, and contributions from fans.

Prog is a postmodern genre really, and consequently filled with great virtuoso's and experimentation. Discussions and news and opinions around this genre can be brought into the live radio medium from wonderful sites such as this one.

I don't think it is wise to criticise two guys with a love for this genre of music who are bringing it to a wider audience straight after simply hearing the news.

Wow Mosh, you actually sound like you've heard this show.

And what's a repetitive mature?

Don't worry about Mosh. He knows absolutely everything about everything. No bigger font of knowledge exists on this site. He's teaching us ignorant rabble stuff all the time. He even knows how we feel and think about stuff.

Heh.

Good luck with the venture, by the way. I'm a great believer in the value of radio/podcasts as a method of spreading musical awareness so I sincerely hope you stick at it! Big smile

HI,

It wasn't meant to be bad ... it was meant as a CHALLENGE to those folks to do something better and more interesting.

I'm all for ANY show that plays a lot more of this music, with the sad conclusion that it will eventually go commercial of some sort and we won't like it anymore ... how sad ... to make it better we have to kill it!

I think, and I am spoiled and I admit it, that a GOOD progressive show is not about "songs" ... and that is the main difference between all of you and I. When I did my show, you would have for the most part, more than an hour for many artists, because for me it was hard to decide what to play ... but too much of the "progressive radio" out there, from the ones on Live365 to any other place out there, the "hit" style and parade of known things that -- FOR ME -- makes the show NOT progressive at all, and defeats the idea of even giving someone the idea that something is progressive, done commercial style!

I'm of the opinion that 1 song, is not representative of an artist's work. And I prefer when you would play two or three things from any artist in a row ... so that in the end, we can separate ourselves AND the music, from the rest of the commercial stuff that we don't care for.

If you guys have an issue with that ... fine ... we'll see who gets remembered and written about out there in the end! Because it ain't about being the same as everyone for your friends to think you are cool!

Thanks to all of the encouraging posts.

But to the guy that keeps posting these wild pseudo-philosophical tangents about the nature of listening, it seems you put your knowledge on a hierarchy to everyone else, which is the very definition of minimal knowledge.

I'd ask you to stop making prejudiced assumptions about a show you have not quite had a chance to delve into by relating it to past progressive rock radio shows.

Cool! I only know of one prog radio show, and its only on Sundays from 10pm to 12am Cry. But I met the guy that runs the show, and he introduced me to prog. Good luck on the show, and I hope random listeners can tune in, hear something wonderfully interesting, and convert them to the music of PROG!

That was my co-host Andy perhaps forgetting The Yes Album. We were all quite nervous first time live recording the show

I'm sure its really good!! I will try to listen but I am just not a fan of online radio shows or podcasts, I've tried in the past......I can't at work because my phone and cell phone rings too much, I am in sales and marketing.

Once I get home I listen to my own collection, so I guess I just don't have time......I'll book mark your site and try.

Keep playing it tho!

That's great, thanks. Yeah, I would probably agree with you there.

Maybe a new level of audience participation is needed to give life to radio again.
