Hello all,

There’s not really an easy way to say this, so I’ll just say it. I’ve decided to suspend the Frost project with immediate effect. If this were somebody else’s band, I’d just say I was leaving, it would be so much easier, but it’s not so easy when you’ve created the band in the first place…

The reasons are many - I don’t feel comfortable any longer in the role of singer/front man/keyboard player/principle songwriter/principle cheque writer. Truth be told, I never have. It’s all got a bit out of hand from the gently self-mocking studio project I started for fun in a shed in East Sussex in May 2004 when I was young and happy and it was always sunny.

More than that though, trying to juggle two full time careers as I have over the last 7 years has been a tough ask and has ultimately become a price to high to pay in certain areas of my life. One of which is my health. I’ve been to a very dark place over the last 8 days and ended up in a pretty bad way. Although I’m now emerging out the other side (a stone lighter into the bargain), I have realised that I have some serious issues I must address. I’m no longer young, I’m no longer happy and the sun is no longer shining.

These issues have made me realise that life is sometimes about doing what you must do when the time comes regardless of what other people might want or expect of you. Some things are bigger than music or bands, expectation or disappointment. Figuratively speaking, I’ve now been given a yellow card and my priority now is to get myself back together before I get sent off for good.

So what now?

Nothing. I’m going to go to ground for a bit. Be private. Grow some veg. Get well.

And reflect. It’s been an amazing journey full of brilliant moments. Too many to list, I’m sorry it’s stopped like this, so abruptly, but I’ve been at my wits end lately and I’m no use to anybody in an urn.

I hope you’ll understand. Thank you for being brilliant.

Jem.

Poor guy - I've been going through similar conflicts with my business lately, though not to the same degree. Frost* has already made their impact, hope Jem recovers and is happy again soon.

Wishing Jem a speedy recovery. A very talented guy. Hopefully we'll hear more from him at some point, in whatever form that may take.

I read this with a heavy heart, but I wish him all the best. I know first hand that health has to come before anything, however brilliant that 'anything' may be.

Best of luck JEM, you're absolutely right to take the action when its not working for you.

That's one hell of a shame, but I do have massive sympathy with him. I have recently packed in a lifetime lay trade union "career" for exactly the same reasons. Health and family must come first.

Sad to hear but glad he is getting better and has his priorities correct. Health must come first.

Doesn't say very much. does it? He's had health problems, but he only hints at the causes and that's what would interest me.

I love Frost*, but if Jem isn't feeling up to the music, than I think it's best he take as much time as he need from it in general. He's already made Milliontown, for Christ sake, and I thank him whole-heartedly for that contribution. Hope he gets better quite soon.

Well, the good news is that Frost* have recently (11th December according to facebook) released a DVD/CD package called 'The Rockfield Files' consisting of live performances taped in Rockfield Studios in Wales. Magenta's Rob Reed has been working with the band on this, and he has uploaded this promo of the project to his YouTube channel:

A new album is also being made called "Six Minutes In September” - the original plan for which was to release it in 2 bits, 6 months apart. Since announcing that idea, however, Jem was informed that The Tangent and Big Big Train were already doing something similar, so Jem has now decided to release the whole thing as an actual, proper double album all at the same time.

No indication of when at the moment though.

The DVD/CD can be bought at http://themerchdesk.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=87_18_179&product_id=359" rel="nofollow - http://themerchdesk.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=87_18_179&product_id=359  for GBP £12.00, and it is already on the site here: http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=43883" rel="nofollow - http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=43883

It features five Frost* songs taken from Milliontown and Experiments In Mass Appeal plus a new song, 'Heartstrings', an acoustic session featuring the songs 'Lantern' and 'Black Light Machine', plus (on the DVD) an interview with Jem Godfrey and John Mitchell. Proceeds will be used to fund production of the new album.

Great news. Frost are one of the most talented prog bands around. I need to dig out that album with the red telephone box on..

Received the DVD and CD package today.Amazing turnaroud given the time of year. Bowdown

Honestly this is the most enjoyable DVD I've seen and listened to in a long time. Make no bones about it that this is a prog supergroup and also the best there is at the moment imo. Jem is refreshingly honest about his music and has some very amusing and cutting observations about the 'prog scene'. John Mitchell is a lot of fun as well. Most importingly the music is simply brilliant. GET IT!!
