Here are the links to their http://twitter.com/#%21/RealOceansize" rel="nofollow - twitter explaining the situation. It seems like although they are breaking up, they all have projects. So maybe there is a silver lining. Very sad news indeed! Cry

An interview with Oceansize was just posted last month on The Silent Ballet site:

No hint of a breakup there.

I am utterly distraught.

I didn't see this coming at all. Ah well, they made some amazing music while they were together...I'm very thankful for that.

Wow. This made me sad. But it seems they're hinting at still creating music through other venues, so that's something good to take from it.

I never like to see a band I like break up, but I never get too upset about it either.  The link in the original post didn't work for me, so I don't know exactly what's going on (I'll look into it though). I wish them the best in whatever they decide to do going forward. Smile

NOOOOO!!!  I just looked them up on Wikipedia and read about this.  What a bummer!  I just get into them heavily last summer, they release Self Preserved... just this past fall and now they break up.  And while I'm glad to see each member will be keeping busy, it just won't be the same, no matter what comes out of this.  Oceansize were a truly unique experience.

And Sleepytime on top of this? For a year with a lot of amazing releases, there is a lot of sad news so far.

I think it's a good thing. Frankly, their last album was a bit boring - it had some good moments, but as B.B. King put it: The thrill is gone.

^It just seems weird that they would release a new album and then break up 4 months later.

Aye. And they contributed a fine Spratley's Japs cover for the Tim Smith tribute album, which they announced they'd be releasing as a special limited edition single only about a week prior to this announcement, which makes it seem all the more sudden.

UnhappyCry Big big shame - an awesome band - and to think I missed that gig oin Bristol last year - what was I doing?!

Hope their 'brothers in Amps' (Amplifier) don't follow the same route having recently released an album

Naturally I approve whenever these schmucks drop the act and allow real artists to fall into view. However, there's always the problem of having former members continue denigrating the legacy of the art form once known as music in side projects. Let's not do a victory dance just yet. First we have to make sure that these two-bit hacks never pick up an instrument ever again.

Fight for what's right and do your part: say "NO!" to new music and say "YES!" to pre-89 heroes!
