Rock guitarist Gary Moore dies
The BBC has learned that Gary Moore has died
The renowned rock guitarist Gary Moore has died, the BBC has learned.
Mr Moore, 58, was, originally from Belfast, and was a former member of the legendary Irish group Thin Lizzy.
Adam Parsons, who manages Thin Lizzy, told the BBC that Mr Moore had died in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Mr Moore was originally drafted into Thin Lizzy by its singer Phil Lynott. He later gained acclaim for his solo work and was a former member of the Irish group Skid Row.
I am speechless. No info on how and I didn't know he was ill.
Grim.
Great guitarist, a true giant.

Played with Colosseum II as mentioned but also turned out for Cozy Powell and Greg Lake. Probably one of the most talented guitarists ever. I don't think anything was beyond him.
btw I had the pleasure of meeting his brother Cliff about 10 years ago.Nice bloke.

Just heard this on the news.
The tribute clip was excellent and he played with some of the best such as BB King. The news report played clips of his 'Friday on my Mind' classic among others, and talked about his contribution to guitar metal. I saw his video many years ago and really enjoyed the melodic and acomplished guitar.
He has been taken too soon, too young.
RIP Gary Moore.
Post some responses here too - the MMA have some lovely tributes...

Any memories of GM?
I have seen him twice as far as I recall.
Once I saw him play at Donningtons Monsters Of Rock festival where Van Halen and AC/DC headlined ( I definitely remember him playing "Shapes of Things") and the second occasion was as part of Greg Lake's band at Cardiff Students Union.
The second time I could see him play up close. He was brilliant. He will be missed.

I was very sad to hear of Gary's demise. He was definitely one of my favourite guitarists, especially his work with Colosseum II, Thin Lizzy, and his 1970s/80s solo stuff.
I was lucky enough to see Gary in concert on many occasions. Back in the early 80's, he would always include either Edinburgh or Glasgow on his tours, and his band would feature the likes of Ian Paice, Neil Murray, Don Airey, Tommy Eyre.......great musicians and fun to watch!
My favourite Moore moment was at the Reading Festival in 1982. It was a sweltering summer afternoon, and most of the crowd had gravitated to the right hand stage to drool over the 2 girl singers from Aussie band Cheetah. That allowed my mates and I to wander right down to the front of the left stage, knowing that Gary was up next. After Cheetah finished there was a 15 minute gap before Gary came on, although he was obviously on stage behind the curtain as he warmed up and entertained us by playing along to the PA music in his own inimitable style. Some of the licks he threw into Eddie Cochran's Summertime Blues were amazing!!
If you'd like to check out the full range of Gary Moore's talents, check out "Back On The Streets" - metal, blues, jazz, funk, ballads........all in one handy-dandy album package!

Thanks for posting this because no one in the mainstream media will never inform us.
Even if he did not play with Collesium II, he was a great musician who deserved a post on main section of this website.
Very deeply saddened by this news, almost as bad when I heard Stevie Ray Vaughan died.

Greatly saddened as you all are, I've been playing a wide selection of his songs in my class, surprisingly a number of my pupils know his songs.
I too was at Donnington and still remember the day, all these years later...

Sadly, in North American blues and jazz fests that regularly featured Snoop Dog and the Black Eyed Peas, not one ever got Gary Moore to play here.
I only wish I was able to see this great man play. Still devasted.
Then again, I have not seen any notice in any of our newpapers about this, mind you they are giving front page headlines to Lindsay Lohan. - nuff said
