Wich is the best the groovy sound of a proper strat or the heavy sound of a gibson lp or the combination of the two with a PRS.

Well for looks the gibson is great but the PRS is even greater but none of these guitars are as comfy as a strat. Although the looks are a bit dull its just because it have been copied by every single small guitarproducer.

Now for the sound the strat sounds a bit more sharp and has just a groovy sound wich i find beutiful for slow parts picked with fingers. While a gibson Lp with their humbuckers are a bit round and sounds great when distorted but is pretty cool on jazzy runs as well.

However the fender got a tremolo wich is great to have for making strange sounds, although i dont use it all the time it is nice to have on such a expansive guitar. Although you can get tremolos on lps as well these are usually bigsbys wich i find is crap. Anyways many say that the standard sync vintage fender tremolo goes out of tune but i find that after streching the string a bit you can even do divebombs without it going out of tune.

Then you got the prs witch you can get to sound a bit like a humbucker and a bit like single coil by using various mic set ups( By paralell and serial switching)

Anyways i prefer the fender strat because of their great V shape necks and great single coil sound. I also got a tbx circuit so that the single coils sound abit round like a humbucker would do. And i also tried prs and gibsons and i found that the Fender strat eric clapton signature was the best one

Gibson with me. I have had two Strats -- one American Standard and one 1979 and both are gone, but i agree with the versatility of Strats.

I settled on Gibson Les Paul Custom 68 reissue and its most amazing electric guitar i have ever played. Many 70s progrock music was played with Les Paul Customs -- they are my most favourite guitars.

Man, I am in love with my Stratocaster and I can say that after many years I have achieved the sound I was looking for with the combination of the Strat and a Mesa Boogie amp. However, last week I played a PRS for the first time and....WOW! What a sound, it is really incredible. And it feels very comfortable too. I LOVE it, someday I will get me one, for sure....

All these can sound great, but a Flying V is my favourite - just listen to Andy Powell of Wishbone Ash!!

Who cares as long as you can play.

I've seen people with the nicest guitars and still couldn't play one worth a sh*t.

PRS, Gibson, and Fender are good, it just depends what kind of sound you want..

Gibson is my preference. PRS's are way too expensive and fenders(although strats are great) don't seem solid enough for me. But strats are great and they're alittle more versatile than gibsons. But I'd still take my Les Paul over any guitar.

In opposit to all the gearheads out there, I am a tonehead. I don't understand why people spend so much money on their equipment to get something that is ok with everybodey, instead of buying a guitar and mod it to suit just you. This way you get a guitar customised to your spesification, and you get the tone you always wanted. I would never ever dream of buing a prs. Yes, they are great to play, and they sound ok, but you end up paying 20000 for laquer.

I myself now have a 1964 hondo-strat copy, with the neck shaped after my spesification. It got a gotho tremolo with piezo, sperzel locking tuners, a brass nut and brand new jumbo frets. I have Duncan pickups in midle and bridge possition, and a 1971 fender strat in the neck possition. It also have some custom wiering, with a mid boost controll and 7 pickup switching oppertunities. My best friends dad, which is a true gearhead once tried this guitar, and swore it was the best thing he had ever played, and that he had never heard a guitar with such a great tone. This comes from a man with four PRS guitars (one witch is the Santana 1), a bunch of vintage fenders, a couple of gibson LP's and a lucile. He claimed it was the best sounding vintage fender he had ever played. You should have seen his face when i told him i bought the guitar of ebay for 80$. Everyne who plays this guitar falls in love with it.

This is the guitar, but it's before modding. It is now raped with sandpaper, and looks realy reliced.

My other guitars are:

a 1993 samick, moded with gotho tuners, a real floyd and EMG's. Plays like a dream, and sounds very much like the ESP KH2. Looks like a Ibanez s-series.

a 80's korean kramer strat copy with dimarzio PUs, mighty might bridge gotho tuners and custom wiering. This also has a special shaped neck, much like the hondo, and the fretboard is scalloped. Added a quilted maple top, laquered in transperant green with a burst to black and abalone inlays.

A 1996 Epiphone LP with duncans and gotho tuners. Plays like a dream.

A squire strat, moded to a hard top hollow-body with a f-fole. Has an acoutic bridge, and is strung with nylon strings. Piezo electronics and gotho tuners

The squire and first hondo is not pictured. Old photo.

I think all this guitars have costed me around 2500$, witch is is much less than a good Prs... And all this guitars is just the way I want them. Sort of my own customs, with the set up I find suitable for each spesific guitar. I plug it all in home made effects, a Jen crybaby and a old Hiwatt 50 watt combo with an aditional 2*12 cabinett.

the strat is said to be the most versatile sounding guitar around. however, rather than spend $lots, you may want to consider buying an fx processor/preamp. i have a jackson dxmg and bc rich nj ironbird. i also have a boss gt-6 processor which has patches giving realistic sounds of strats. its the cheaper alternative to spending thousands on a custom guitar. if you hate it later, you've wasted lots of time effort and money.

There's a reason why they call PRS's lawyer guitars.
Lots of dudes with money pay big bucks for them so
they can play Nickelback covers or blues rock. A Les
Paul would do just fine, thanks.

Quite bold words for a n00b who asks why the top 3 strings are brighter than the bottom 3 ...

OI!

I knew why the top 3 strings would have a higher pitch and sound a helluva lot brighter. I'm not THAT dim. I just wanted a more ominous sound from the top 3 strings.

However: My original statement remains:

Les Paul.

All the motherf**king way.

BTW: Parker, Music Man, Ibanez, ESP ... I'd prefer all these. I have a Gibson Nighthawk, used to have a Fender American Deluxe Strat, and now I have a beautiful ESP Horizon NT-II.

Well for the music i play the PRS would be far more suitable than the others. I don't like Gibsons and i'm not a huge strat fan either.
But my strat copy is a really fun guitar to play to go off on blues tangents. When i get my next guitar (a Carvin DC727) i'm going to use the strat copy to really expand my tech knowledge of guitars. I'm gonna take that thing apart and put it back together, then i'm gonna mod it, give it a dramatic face lift. New paint, pickups (still got stocks in there whatever they are), new a lot of things.

If you are modding your guitar, I would recomend the forum on  http://www.projectguitar.com - www.projectguitar.com  . The pweople over there know just about anything about guitar, and a lot of them are luthiers. Hell I'll recomen this site to anyone!

I am a Fender man, myself. Here's my theory. You can always use a processor to thicken up a strat to sound like a humbucker, but you can't make a humbucker guitar sound like a true strat, even if you water it down a lot. Strat is the only guitar for me. Plus, they are cheaper than a Gibson LP, if you get a Mexico one.

Even with a humbucker ... would you want to sound like Malmsteen?

No thanks, I'll use my Ibanez JEM555 when I want a strat sound ...

BTW: Even my ESP Horizon (neck through, PRS like wood, two humbuckers) can sound like a strat ... humbuckers can be splitted.
