I like the sound clips I've heard of Roine Stolt bands, but the vocals always suck. He's not the best singer, and when he taps another singer, they suck too. I think the female singer on Kaipa's Mindrevolutions is really...Olivia Newton John!!!
Please help me - I know Roine is a cool guy, and since there is so much music from Flower Kings, Kaipa, Transatlantic, Stolt solo, I really want to acquire the taste. Where should I start?

| Well, Transatlantic is basically Morse on vocals, with Stolt as well. Maybe good if you want to start somewhere else other than Stolt singing all the time. |

Yeah, I'd suggest starting with Transatlantic, as well, 'cause Morse makes Stolt not as bad. Otherwise, I'd have to agree with you. . . ------------- "Don't listen to me." |

And yeah, I find Stolt tolerable sometimes, but more often than not, his vocal chords are just too monotonuous for me to really enjoy them, which is why I suggested Transatlantic because Neal Morse gives the songs some meaning, with only a hint of Stolt. ------------- "Don't listen to me." |

I would start with 'Stardust We Are'. I believe it was this album that Hasse Froberg joined the band & started to do some lead vocals. His voice is fantastic! BTW, I quite like Roine's voice. His lead vocals on 'We All Need Some Light' on his remix of the SMPTe CD is actually better than Morse's version IMHO! |

Man, everyone but progger is awful! (not completely serious) Transatlantic is NO PLACE to look for the work of Stolt, his genius barely got to shine... his main song from the first album, My New World, is a world different than the amazing song he submitted, entitled "My Cruel World". If you want instrumental Stolt, check out his solo album Hydrophonia. Instrumental prog-jazzy with an acquatic theme. As for vocals... they really grew on me, he sounds like a passionate John Wetton with more character. Unfold The Future is an AMAZING album. If you like the psychedelic, jazzy side of prog... it's a tough, thick listen, but EXTREMELY rewarding.. I'd recommend any of their albums, they're all very different adventures, each with their own rewards... I think you should start with Hydrophonia, and Tomas Bodin's Sonic Boulevard, where Roine also plays amazing stuff. Next would be The Flower Kings: Unfold The Future, where he leaves the singing to his band mates MOST of the time. Edit: 100% agree on the Kaipa female vocals.
