Hey PA!

Here's a (good?) update for DT fans:

http://www.mikeportnoy.com/forum/tm.aspx?high=&m=2621033&mpage=1#2621033" rel="nofollow - http://www.mikeportnoy.com/forum/tm.aspx?high=&m=2621033&mpage=1#2621033

After leaving Dream Theater in hopes of continuing on with Avenged Sevenfold, Portnoy has announced that he is done with A7X. What does this mean about his future with Dream Theater?

I think his return is inevitable, probably after their planned 2011 album.

What do you think?

Even though I"m no DT fanboy I'm glad. Portnoy had too much talent to be in that band.

Someone had just said in a thread that DT are supposed to have already chosen the new drummer, but they wouldn't reveal it just yet... what if the new drummer in Mike Portnoy?

It would be incredibly lame?

^ Certainly, I guess they may even loose some fans due to such a lack of seriounsess...

It would be a very bad joke.

Am I the only one who thought it was clear that Portnoy was just filling in? I didn't think he had any real plans to stay with them after the tour.  And you're right, he does have way too much talent to be used in Avenged Sevenfold.

Oh! And Portnoy is recording a new album with Neal Morse over the holidays!

i didnt feel this needs its own thread, but cant find a more suitable thread for this but....

Portnoy announced that he tried to re-join DT but they basically said 'no'. The Dream Theater forums have blown up to the point where the site is temporarily down, due to too many arguments and MP/DT/A7V/new drummer bashing. it's quite amusing to be honest.

I dont know . . .
I never find it amusing that soo many idiots think THEY know whats best for the band when they have no clue
what is really going on (or what its like to be in a Band) Confused.
I've seen some of the early bashing and on Mike's Facebook, and I'm convinced . . .
The "Fans" made this happen, I've discused this with many and most of us know that Mike wears his heart
on his sleeve and had great rapore with his fans, and many just turned on him Unhappy.
The guy has been vulnerable, doing well with his sobriety,  but "racing the clock to please everyone, all but
the one that matters the most
". He was always more than just a Drummer, but hearing the fans year after
year using DT as the "whipping boy of Prog Metal" can get pretty tiring . . .
They (Mike) should have the additude of Rush, who cares what the critics or Fans say or want, Play the
music you want to create, and if anyone likes it, they're along for the ride
Big smile.

I can see Mike (and maybe even DT) just nodding their heads/heads in their hands, but trying to rise
"above the noise and confusion" (No not a DT song, but appropriate Wink).

As far as who will be the Drummer, maybe they can all meet and have a few laughs, maybe even
"Sow their wild-oats" for a year or two, maybe they will see they need each other.
I saw Mike just belting out his frustrations on the drums without worrying about pleasing everyone,
but as we see, it just made it worse, and like it was said-it was temporary.
I just wish DT and Mike good luck and make some great music, I've been with them since WDADU
debuted (on LP!) and I always look forward to each release.

Cheers all! Smile

I wanted to add:
Something I have been seeing a lot written is "His personal Drama"; "His Goodbye drama" . . .
I mean WTF? So EVERYONE is perfect except Portnoy (yet he can make a living doing what
he wants, but work hard at it and take on many challenges).
He puts his life out there for everyone to read, maybe someone can relate to while rockin' out
in the songs content, and hoping people can understand what one goes through with the
stress and keeping sober, apparently in this quick response world of the internet, its speak
before thinking and damn those who I can insult at a whim in the (cowardly) privacy of my
own room Ouch.
Casting Stones . . .
I think everyone needs to take 10 steps back and go look in "The Mirror" and see the so-called
"Drama" in your life and think of the people around you that get tired of it too . . .
and then assess the people that actually stick by you.  The phrase Drama has been soo
over-used that people forget that its really called "Life".
Drama to me is a really good album by YES (... LOL).

Yeah, I thought that was obvious too, besides what they were talking about before he left, he didn't even mention them in his goodbye drama.

As for being shot down, loooooooooool

Opening Track "Machine Messiah" was covered as an
Instrumental on the "Christmas Show" Concert for Fans, and when they opened for Yes during the "Train of
Thought Tour" (Yes's 35th Anniversary Tour).  Hmmm . . . DT seems to be going through what Yes had to
deal with-with Band Members, Lawyers and all Confused.
(My God! will I be saying, "Those were the good 'old days with DT . . . HEY! Git off ma' Lawn!!!!).

. . . but back to the point Tongue.
