| A classic poll. Iron Maiden has been my favorite band from my 13th birthday on and I don't expect other bands to change this. Not only do I prefer their recorded music (quality and quantity of quality material), but also prefer the live performance of Iron Maiden and I find the bandmembers to be way more sympathetic. |

I prefer Iron Maiden by far. Metallica had a couple masterpieces (Master of Puppets and AJFA) back in the 80's, but Maiden had even more masterpieces... and I like Seventh Son more than any Metallica album anyway. Not to mention that Iron Maiden still pumps out albums that should make St. Anger, Load, and Reload ashamed. Oh, and I love Metallica too.  -------------

This. Though it wasn't even a hard choice for me. Early Metallica at least tried, Maiden subjugated themselves to tr00 metchul from day one. Still love Killers album though. |

Two of the most important bands of my teenage years, it's a very difficult decision. I'm just going to skip all the personal reasons I'd have for choosing one over the other and go for Maiden because of the consistency. I do like all Metallica albums as well.

| Metallica. I like Maiden, but my taste for them has faded over the years. I will agree that Maiden has probably been more consistent, but no Maiden album touches Master of Puppets in my eyes. I think their music has aged better than Maiden's as well (The Black Album aside, that sounds so dated). |

| Metallica were the first band I really got into as a young preteen lad, while I didn't hit up Maiden worship until I was about 17, but Iron Maiden are definitely tops for me over time. I still love Metallica up to AJFA but they've made so many awful records, said so many stupid things, acted like such douchebags it's hard to have the same appreciation I once did for them...... while Iron Maiden, minus the Blaze years have consistently ruled, reinevented themselves into something AMAZING post 2000 and seem like genuinely nice people all around. If I had to pick one, no contest it'd be Maiden....... |

Easily Maiden. I like Metallica too, but Dickinson is a muuuuuuch better singer than Hetfield, and I think that Harris is a better songwriter than any Metallica member too (Ancient Mariner, Dream Of Mirrors, Alexander, etc...) ------------- I shook my head and smiled a whisper knowing all about the place |

Maiden,Maiden,Maiden.The majority of Maiden's discography is absolutely classic,and they have withstood the test of time.Metallica did four good albums and haven't done anything worth a sh*t in decades.Plus Metallica claimed NWOBHM as a major influence,so why wouldn't I pick one of the leading bands in that movement? -------------  |

People from DK tend to idolize the ones who make it big regardless of talent. I have been a Metallica fan ever since I had the upper body strength to headbang. Metallica was and still is the largest teenage boys gathering in my country and I suspect they will continue to be so in the future. Maiden on the other hand is now gaining some of its prior glory in the youth department - and that is a welcome change to be frank. After about a year of listening to Iron Maiden, I got to see them live for the first time in summer of 1982. They have been one of my all time favorite metal bands since, I have had no reason to stray to the likes of Metallica or similar.....I never got into Metallica back in the day, I always saw J Hetfield as some kind of primadonna attitude.
Anyhow, to me 50% of Iron Maiden's recordings totally destroy anything Metallica has ever done.....so 100% would be down right bloody and dismembering.
Iron Maiden keeps getting better, and their live shows are some of the best concerts today. -------------

I see Metallica is more a metal band that had some progressive tendencies in a few of their albums. I do agree with CCVP that And Justice is the most progressive. The only thing I found ridiculous is Metallica stopped making things that they considered to be complex because they bitched about 9 minute songs being too long to play. Now some people may say well they are hitting all their instruments yard, but so were King Crimson with their crazy improvs!
