Let's see, I guess I'll put a real controversal one: John Petrucci. If you don't think his soloing is emotional, then I guess you need to listen to more of his stuff because his solos are not just all about shredding (listen to Yngwie Malmsteen or Michael Angelo Batio if you want shredding), he has so much emotion in his solos and they move me more than Howe, Hackett or Vai will ever do. |

I must agree with Steve Vai, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Gilmour. I think i'll agree with Petrucci as well. A lot of the time i wouldn't, but for his solos on Falling Into Infinity if nothing else. Also his stuff with LTE is excellent. Soulful doesn't have to mean melancholic, just from the soul. Roine Stolt is another good one. I'd like to add Frank Zappa, Allan Holdsworth, and Pat Metheny |
