Spring 2011 is cool.  January is cooler.  I am seeing them play on April 17th, so it would be great to have Clockwork Angels in my ears before then.

Well if anything it will buy me more time to try get into that confounded " Snakes & Arrows" which is a good album and possibly a great album. It is so darn hard to crack open.

January 2012 for the next one then.

Found it already. No January 2011, more like end 2011 or indeed January 2012.

Reading Classic Rock magazine today and Lee said at the Classic Rock awards that Clockwork Angels won't be finished until the "end of next year". That suggests an early 2012 release.

CD releases take so long these days. It's just 50 minutes of music on a CD, it shouldn't be that big a deal. According to they started writing it a year ago and had started recording it this spring. They've got the single out, but it's going to be another full year before the album is released? What on earth are all the people at the record company doing during this time? Most of the major bands of the '60s and '70s had an album released every year, more or less, and workaholics like Omar Rodriquez-Lopez, Mike Patton, and John Zorn can keep that up in the modern era, but it seems like for normal rock bands there's a minimum of 2-3 years between albums and often it's more like 5. Is there just a lot more red tape at companies these days? Are they just being lazy*? I don't get it.

*I would not include Rush as being lazy in this instance because they already had their album a year heyday when they were young.

One of the most confusing situations in modern musakApprove The youngsters in them days truly had it sorted with "experimental" record company backing, perhaps that is the difference, the record company owners were stoned at the time. It was hip.....

Yeah, I think it would be strange if they released two songs for the album, then released said album two years later

I think it's because they're in the position to decide. As you said, they had their ten years of making an album and touring in support of it every single year, and when they had families, got older and had more say in their actions instead of being told what to do, I suppose they just thought "let's take it easier and have more fun". Make an album, no rush (...), have a nice tour with no other commitments, take a bit of a holiday with family, start thinking about perhaps getting back together... and before you know it it's been four years since the last time they started the process. I'm sure their record company releases anything they give them with a "new Rush album" sticker on it.

I did not know about Anthem, but they still need Atlantic for the US. ;-)
