I'm currently creating my Christmas list and I've run out of ideas. I am an open-minded listener (obviously!), but I enjoy eclectic music the most ... the more varied instrumentation the better! My favorite artist is probably Jethro Tull, but Zappa, King Crimson (especially the earlier material), Gentle Giant, Van Der Graaf Generator, and the early Genesis are some other close favorites, but that isn't all I like, of course. Also, recently I've gotten a bit of an avant-garde taste ... with albums frequenting my stereo from the likes of Univers Zero, Henry Cow, and a good bit of Magma. Aside from prog, I also have gotten into quite a bit of jazz ... particularly Herbie Mann ... and I'm as a flute player, I'm always apt to appreciate flute-heavy music of any kind. So, can you throw out any suggestions? Please give some explanations along with them, though. Like I said, I'm open-minded and am willing to try almost anything (even suggestions from the artists I listed ... I don't have complete collections, with the exception of Tull, Zappa, and Crimson), regardless of the era ... though I do have a preference for 70's stuff. If you can get any National Health I'm sure you'll fall in love with them. Also, Picchio dal Pozzo's debut is some really fine Canterbury music with a bunch of Zappa hints. Since you're getting into some Avant-Garde, why not some Avant-Fusion? Hehe, either Crossings or Sextant by Herbie Hancock might satisfy your quirky, experimental and jazz needs. Also some experimental Miles Davis, Live Evil specifically. Also you might enjoy I Sing the Body Electric by Weather Report.

Still, check out Hybris if you can (and haven't heard it), that's really great, with some similarities to early King Crimson and Genesis - specially the use of flute - (and some deviations too).
Oh, and I just got Bacamarte's Depois do Fim, and it's great too. |

So far, I’ve only heard the Koenjihyakkei once. It kind of reminds me of a cross between Zappa and mid-70’s Magma, but I like it a lot! I’ll be sure to get back to you on the others, though. So far, Hybris is around $23 on Amazon (which is a bit out of my price range for a single disc, but I’ll keep my eye on it). I’ll look into Bacamarte, too, thanks! | ^ Listen to it in Youtube, so you may know in advance wether you'll like it or not. I guess it's needless to say you may need more than one listen to totally apreciate it. By the way, if it's at $23 on Amazon, it may be a good price (if you like the album), given that it's out of print (or however it would be said for albums not being recorded at the time); however, that may change soon (the word is out they will record a new album, and perhaps re-release their former ones). |

| Oh yeah, and in case you haven't hear them either, you may just as well like Harmonium too, specially Si On Avait Besoin d'une Cinquieme Saison. Histoire Sans Paroles is incredible (though very mellow all around). |
