Pallas

MONSTROUS pre Christmas freebie plus XXV release details and live dates

With the new album XXV finally in the can, Pallas launch the pre release Christmas countdown by releasing Monster, from the forthcoming album as a FREE to download single on Friday November 26th. The track has become a live favourite and so the band have produced a ‘Radio Edit’ that will not appear on the standard release of the album. The FREE download will be at present only from the Pallas official website http://www.pallas.f2s.com/ -

The track is part of the long awaited XXV, the sequel to the band’s Classic Sentinel album and has a narrative that follows on from The Atlantis inspired earlier album.

XXV is a lot heavier and in places, darker than more recent Pallas albums. The earlier guitar driven sound of the band is very much to the fore and their heavier prog sound, influenced as much by the likes of Rush and Deep Purple as Yes and King Crimson is very much in evidence.

Pallas are also pleased to announce that they have signed a worldwide 3 album deal with Mascot Records and XXV will be released on their progressive label Music Theories Recordings.

Pallas release XXV on January 24th 2011 and it will feature some spectacular new artwork, influenced by world famous artist Patrick Woodruff’s stunning Sentinel sleeve, and created by a collective of new media artists across the world.

A Special edition of the CD will also include a DVD featuring numbers filmed during the bands stunning Sentinel/XXV show closing performance at ‘The Night of the Prog’ festival at Loreley this year.

Live Shows

To coincide with the release of XXV, Pallas will be undertaking a number of live shows in both the UK and Europe. These begin with a Hometown XXV Launch Party at The Tunnels in Aberdeen on Friday Feb 4th and is a return for new vocalist Paul Mackie to the site of his Pallas debut earlier this year.

The following night Sat Feb 5th, the band hotfoot it all the way down to London for an English Album Launch and live show at The House of Progression at The Peel, Kingston upon Thames. Tickets available by calling 0208 546 3516 for credit card orders.

The band have also been offered the privilege of headlining The Classic Rock Society Awards Show on Sat March 5th. At Montgomery Hall, Wath Upon Dearne. This show has become an institution and a great night acknowledging the best of rock and prog and closed by a Pallas live show is a night not to be missed. Tickets available from The Classic Rock Society.

At present the band have only one confirmed European date and that is a headline appearance at Holland’s IO Pages festival, being held at the Boerderij in Zoetermeer on April 15th
Pallas
will be making further UK, European and festival appearances throughout the
summer and these will be announced when further details are available.

A promo CD of Monster will be available for radio stations/podcasts and Vocalist Paul Mackie and Graeme Murray will be available for interviews. Any radio presenters magazine editors or other journalists requiring interviews or further information, please contact

Looks like I'm first to respond, maybe download. Anyway, bumping for attention.

I think it's a good song.

--The instrument sounds and the instrument mixing is really to my liking. A bad mix can nearly ruin an album, and Pallas seem to be one of those bands that have just got is right for what they do. I really love the presence of an actually bass guitar you can hear being struck (it was really apparent and really appreciated on The Dreams of Men, on "The Bringer of Dreams," for example). And that first thunderous guitar chord was definitely that Pallas tone I recognize. (Matter of fact, I wonder if the gear has changed at all, it's such a recognizable tone).

--The chorus seemed a bit weak, especially in the lyrics. A sing-along chorus didn't seem to fit the mood to me, and the lyrics didn't sound convincing.

--One last downer opinion: Paul Mackie is not impressing me. All I can think back to is how I would have loved Alan Reed's vocals on this track. It's not fair, but I'm not seeing any power is his voice. It is passable, but there's no "gruffness" at all to it, and I thought that served Pallas well in the past.

--The coda with the solo and change of pace was perfect; the highlight of the song to me.

I know choosing singles (especially out of concept albums and for a prog bad) is a tough thing to do. I'm looking forward to hearing this again in the context of the album. Cool

That's a nice offer and a great way to promote the new album. Thanks for posting that here Geoff and I'll certainly give it a listen when I can get to a PC and download it.

Anybody who had difficulty downloading Monster can try www.pallasxxv.com .

We will also have a new FREE download of Atlantean (an orchestral piece that was to be the opener to XXV but was left off to give the start of the album more oooomph). It serves as a bridge between The Sentinel and XXV and would be perfect on digital media players.

We are also making available a FREE download of a printable XXV calendar featuring artwork from the new album (which is quite spectacular). The calendar will be available from Fri 14th Jan and Atlantean on Friday 21st Jan with XXV released on 24th Jan.

Enjoy the music xxx
