Hi all, I've created a special Thanksgiving poll in honor of today being Thanksgiving here in the United States.  Whichever your preference, I hope everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving today enjoys a wonderful dinner with their friends and family.

My preference is white meat.

I like to have a nice mixture of white and dark. Speaking of which, that delicious smell downstairs is about to drive me insane. Big smile

And you younger guys should be downstairs helping the folks cook.....I know you can't imagine this now but someday you'll have to take over the preparation of the family favorites.  Take notes!  Big smile

Pffff ... Thanksgiving is so last month (for me).

My mom did cook a turkey on the weekend though, and I've been enjoying the leftovers.  I usually go for a bit of dark and a bit of white meat.

We eat good old Southern poor food on Thanksgiving.

Beside turkey and ham, we have stuffing, mashed potatoes, collards, field peas, fried cornbread, candied yams, potato salad, deviled eggs, rolls, and for dessert, sweet potato cookies, pumpkin pie, and pecan pie.

That's at my mom's mom this afternoon.

This evening, we do it all over again at my dad's mom, and this year my uncle is deep frying the turkey.

Approve

Been a hard year for us, but so much to be thankful for.  Smile

If the bird be the word it's been both for me as long as I can remember. Perhaps the better question is fried, smoked, or baked? LOL

I like a bit of both.  We'll be eating with my wife's extended family today.  My daughter will be in town on Saturday (she has to work today and tomorrow) so we'll do it all over again, on a smaller scale.  I may try to deep fry, if the weather does not include rain, but i've had trouble in the past keeping the oil temps up due to ambient cold temperatures (40 degrees or so).  We'll have the usual sides.  I make a mean yam + bourbon + brown sugar side dish, which given that there is leftover bourbon also generally implies that I should avoid deep frying the turkey.

Can you tell me where we're headin'?

Our turkey was amazingly awesome this year, darn near perfect even though the family thought we may have cooked it too long.

Well the good news for those who like dark meat from the bird, it's losing in the poll so there should be plenty for you.

"I wish that I could really tell you
All the things that happened to me
And all that I have seen.
A world full of people their hearts full of joy,
Cities of light with no fear of war,
And thousands of creatures with happier lives,
And dreams of a future with meaning and no need to hide.

Oh, keep it dark." Genesis Tongue

I return to PA with a belly stuffed to the gills with white meat turkey, stuffing, mashed taters, greenbean casserole, biscuits, and topped off with pumpkin pie.  I look like Garfield after he has tackled himself a lasagna.  Yummmmm.

I eat both equally.  Today I had mostly white meat though, because the dark meat was buried underneath it.  Three plates of food, but now I'm hungry again. LOL

I only celebrated Thanksgiving with my immediate family (my mother's brother and his family meant to come over, but that didn't work out quite right.)  It looks like I'm going to have leftover turkey for every meal the next few days.

Well, yeah.  It's just another pointless thing to argue about, you know.  LOL
Dark usually is moister and white is usually less so, but we're talking basically about whether you prefer breast meat or wing and leg meat.  Sorry turkeys, you'd probably rather not be killed and eaten.  So, one round of leftovers and we're good. Big smile
