I just got my new ACS Godin guitar, which is absolutely amazing.  It is a nylon string and....actually I'm posting the link anyway

. http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fguitars.musiciansfriend.com%2Fproduct%2FGodin-ACS-Limited-Edition-Nylon-String-SemiAcoustic-Electric-Guitar%3Fsku%3D430812&h=9b58a - http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Godin-ACS-Limited-Edition-Nylon-String-SemiAcoustic-Electric-Guitar?sku=430812

It has the capability to be a synth guitar, as you can see at the end of the video below. This is accessed by a 13 pin output.   Now, I can't afford that 800$ Roland synth box to do this with.  I seem to not be able to find ANY information on this guitar at all.  So what all kind of things could I plus this into?  I assume I can't use my Alesis Micron in any way?

Somebody give me some assistance if you can.  Thanks.

Hello sir.

You'll need some kind of box that will convert the signal coming from you guitar via the pickup embedded in the bridge of the ACS Godin into a midi signal which you can then route to either a hardware synth or if your computer has a midi in, a software synth.

I use a Roland GR-20 for live gigs as it has lots of sounds on board from the Roland JV soundset. If you are after a converter only I would suggest the following companies:

Axon - They do very good guitar to midi converters (the one I have linked to below has a USB out which means it would good for a PC or Mac)

Roland - They are the daddy of guitar synthesis to be honest. The GI-20 also has a USB out.

Alternatively, you have the option of going to ebay (or any other online musical second hand place) and see if you can locate what you are after there.

I hope this is of use to you. Smile

Okay.  Thanks, I'm pretty good with equipment, but not at all with computer related stuff (like MIDI).  I really want to check out the synth aspect of this, but I can't afford any of those things on account of just buying the guitar.

This guitar does play like a dream though, and sounds absolutely fantastic.

Understood Himtroy. It's not a cheap business.

Have fun with the Godin.

I most certainly plan to buy the necessary equipment eventually, but I kind of make minimum wage, so it may be  while.  Synth guitar like the end of that video sounds so amazing though, and I feel like much more needs to be done with it.  Other than Pat Metheny I've never even heard anyone use synth guitar.

Andy Summers, Alan Holdsworth and John Mclaughlin played them in the 1980s and there's Fripp and Belew of course who still use 'em to this day. Smile

Ah yes, forgot to mention Fripp and Belew somehow, both of which I listen to a lot of.  I've never heard Mclaughlin or Holdsworth use them before so I should check that out.
