Alright, this should be pretty fun.  What I want you guys to do is list your top 10 favorite drummers in prog (or non-prog) in order, and then your top 10 favorite drum performances in that same manner.  I'm trying to compile a list of the most influential combined with best technical drummer list, and the most technical drum performances/solos within a song as well.  So please contribute!  Your top pick for drummer and performance get 10 points, your 2nd pick gets 9 and so forth.  I'll keep track of the points.

I've posted it quite a few times here actually.  One time a year or so ago, we had a long discussion about ITCOTCK being on the top of their progressive list.  As I recall, it also won the discussion here as well.  Altho at the time, this site was overloaded with Genesis fans, so of course, they thought that SEBTP and TLLDOB should of been much higher on the list..

I wasn't here during that discussion, so I was completely oblivious to that.

I didn't discover this site until about Early December of 2004, a guy on the Progressive Forum on that site (who happens to be DallasBryan here) was talking about this site, so I gave it a look, and here I am.

Curt Cress played on a few Saga albums as well :  "Beginner's Guide to Throwing Shapes" and "Wildest Dreams" - nice drumming on those albums.

For all around creativity and technique my top 10 prog drummers would be:

Vinnie Coliauta
Neil Peart
Bill Bruford
Terry Bozzio
Pierre Moerlen
Michael Giles
Carl Palmer
Phil Collins
Sean Reinert
Stewart Copeland

These guys just seem to have the most facility on the drums.  I have to admit I haven't heard Christian Vander yet, so I don't really know how good he is.  Danny Carey and Gavin Harrison have nice tasteful playing, but I'm not sure they're top 10 yet.  Chad Wackerman's pretty good too - it was hard leaving him off, but he's mostly jazz.

Yeah, they're more nitpicky there than we are here. Very discerning crowd. (I would like to mark this occasion as only the THIRD time in my life I have ever used the word 'discerning' in either speech or print.)

Actually, the Digital Dream Door lists are far and away from what they should be.  I got the drum performances list and there are a lot of songs that are better than the ones on the top and they're not even there.
