Vitkaste is a Helsinki-based trio including Joonas Hietala (composition, keys, guitar, etc.), Vesa Makkonen (bass, vocals) and Heikki Korhola (percussion, etc.). They just finished their incredible symphony in 6 movements, "Lestinjoki" - over two years in the making!

Lestinjoki features tons of augmenting woodwinds, violins, xylophone and other extremely pretty things. It is an interesting take on Symphonic Prog, with lots of modern touches. The music falls somewhere between Camel and Hatfield & the North, and should be listened to from beginning to end.

A highly recommended listen!    http://vitkaste.net/Vitkaste%20-%20Lestinjoki

This was a real labor of love for the boys in the band. Please take a listen and leave a comment...

I played the clarinet in the 2nd part. Check it out! Wink

Bump. It's a shame that absolutely nobody has taken notice of this excellent piece.

Wow, this is amazing! I never heard such good music on a "free album" from "unsigned band". Splendid! Clap This made my day. Also, the music actually resembles that of Camel (and especially that of The Snow Goose, my favourite Camel album). When you look in the "Sounds like" or "Influences" section of many new bands' MySpace page, they throw such major band names without any real connection to their music. LOL Thanks for sharing this!

Thank you for listening!

It's been a while since I last checked here, and noticed just now that Vitkaste has received positive feedback. I'm really happy that you all liked it!

And this has just been cleared for Eclectic.

Does the OP have a biography or any information we could use in creating one?  Any preferred image?

I have long interview of Joonas Hietala about band's history, and fix the bio based on that. Purging the tape + my own slowness may test your patience with this though, but it is under work.
