Same track BTW. But damn, that's super interesting...

Have you got any further evidence that it's a delibirate theft though - the main riff is pretty simple anyways and could easly be put down to coincindence. I'm not very familiar with "Child in Time", though. Does the rest of this track resemble it?

From the sleeve notes to 25th Anniversary release of "In Rock"....

Quote During rehearsals at Hanwell on July 15th, the band took a short break, Roger [Glover] tells the story: "There had been a lull in the jamming. Someone said "Do you remember that song BOMBAY CALLING by It's A Beautiful Day? Jon started playing it for us. We all joined in, we slowed it down, Ian started singing something over it, and it sounded like it could be interesting" ...

... So Joe Lynn was right all along. (It's A Beautiful Day got their own back by pinching the riff from "Wring That Neck" not long afterwards

Both of the links you offered are the same.

See: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=62049&PID=3417549 - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=62049&PID=3417549

It's a Beautiful Day's'"Bombay Calling" (much prefer it to "Child in Time") was an adaptation of be-bop jazzer Vince Wallace's "Bombay Calling". And Dick Heath pointed out in the thread where I mentioned "Child in Time' and both "Bombay Calling" versions that "these tunes' main themes come from a Bach piece".  I don't know which piece.
